Is it someone who has performed/covered the role before or are they new to the show?

I wonder what they will do instead of having the Genie spin out of the floor. Whatever, it is, it won't be as effective.
In the Australian production, I believe he pops out of one of the buildings.

The Australian production I believe is similar to the Japanese and German production with no traps used in the show. This from what I can tell only changes major elements in "Friend like me" and the finale when Jafar disappears.
In "Friend like me" the genie elevator is built into the middle left hand tower and shoots up rather quickly with some pyrotechnics added, and then there is an added elevator gag as he descends and walks over to Aladdin. The chorus boys mostly slide in from the wings on boards connected to the tracks in the floor (Kind of like in the 1st tour of Memphis). The stairs are built in to the upstage pillar which is rotated by the cast, instead of rising from the floor. Also, only the the downstage pillar rotates to reveal the 42nd street style lights for the end of the song.
The finale uses a different set piece which is larger than the broadway version. Instead of Jafar melting into the floor, he melts into the "floor" of the set, kind of like how the witch melts in the wizard of oz I guess (unfortunately when I saw it you could see Jafar shuffling off behind the set piece after the scene was over).
There are some other tweaks here and there from what I saw on Broadway, like there are no nail beds in "Arabian nights" and the walls of Jasmine's suite are four panels that track on and off stage, as well as the deck automation being simplified (without the turntables). Other than that all other elements were identical or unchanged, and was still the cashed-up Disney pantomime that it has always been...
I honestly think if they could tour the raked stage for Lion King and Mary's final flight in Poppins, they can tour the magic carpet for this...
Complete casting has been announced for the tour...

Since when is six degrees of separation Aladdin?
Looks like they went the inexpensive route with that cast.

He's the only one. The rest of them won't be able to command much. No ones heard of them.

As if the original Broadway cast was full of household names?
Disney is touring the property. It's not Hello Dolly. Doesn't need a star.
