Ok, bobbybubby ... explain something to us.

First, you said (re: Memphis) "It had a dreadful reception".

Then, when presented with a quote from the Seattle Times critic, you bounced back with: "Seattle doesn't have a legit theatre critic left."

So who, exactly, gave it a dreadful reception, if there are no critics there? Oh, your insiders, I guess.

And when you say (without EVER backing anything up with something resembling proof):
"I don't type something unless I have proof behind it." .... it's about as believable as Nixon's claim that he had a secret plan to end the war.

I guess the need to feel like an "insider" with hush-hush info has quashed any efforts at authenticity.

I don't understand how the Marquis Theater is producing so many flops. It has a great location in the center of Time Square and it also has all the hotel and tourist traffic.

The Marquis itself isn't the reason a lot of things in the space are flopping.

It's the quality of the shows that are booking the house, unfortunately.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Agreed. I mean, a little show like Drowsy Chaperone filled it to capacity for a good while.

Also, I had no clue Oleanna was taking the Golden and coming to Broadway. It sure didn't leave itself much time to move in. I guess the set and lighting and everything must be pretty simple.

Are the owners for the Marquis specifically strict on the percentage of seats sold?

Something like Woman in White in all honestly was not selling THAT bad and it got the plug pulled on it pretty early (of course there was the sickness in the cast/etc.)...

WOMAN IN WHITE was doing horrible business for that house

And it probably had no advance, so that would have factored in as well.

Woman in White did fine business until New Year's, when typically every show drops off anyway. It was bound to be a tough winter, I don't see why they would just give up that easy unless someone was pulling them to do so. ..not to mention that they had a PAYING audience and weren't comping out every seat, or discounting out the wall (Cry-Baby Average ticket price: $34.24!).

"And it probably had no advance, so that would have factored in as well. "

That's what I always assumed ... again, it wasn't selling anywhere near GREAT, but 75%-ish for a winter run ain't so bad...

The percentage is irrelevant. The show show probably needed a minimum of 500k a week to survive and it hss a stretch of weeks below well below that that and as RippedMan pointed out the advance was most likely non-existant.

I would hardly call a 16-week run with 5 performances under $500k, in which one was 8k short and one a 3-performance week bad...especially considering it was winter and the show's two "headliners" (Friedman & Ball) were frequently out .....

Word of mouth was awful, critics hated it, they got a filler Tony nod, it was doing poor business. There was no reason the producers shouldn't have pulled the plug.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
