This was my first time seeing a production of this play and I had never read it either. Overall I was engaged especially in acts 2 and 3 (I didn't even know there was an act 3!) Letts, Walker, Benning, and Carpanini all gave solid performances and certainly earned a well-deserved standing ovation at the end.

I'll admit though that act 1 seemed pretty bland as I only started to connect with the main characters in acts 2 and 3. Overall I'm glad I got to see this show and would recommend it to friends.

The show was pretty good, especially Acts II and III. I thought Benning did a particularly good job.

I’m so confused: Gregory Mosher dropped out as director because Rebecca Miller wouldn’t let him cast a black actor as George, but now George is being played by...another black actor? The same black actor who had originally been cast? Was it all much ado about nothing?

I actually thought it was a really interesting idea to have the Deevers be black...but Ann is now white, so...color blind instead of color conscious casting?

If theyre all black does it then add a layer that wasn’t there before? Instead of being color blind casting?

Given the plot and a lot of the dialogue, having the Deever family be black and the Keller family be white would have definitely added an interesting layer to the play.

I could think then why they would be hesitant. Since it wasn’t Miller’s intent.

This was my final show to catch for the 2018-2019 season, and it was nice to go out on a fairly high note after a season of many ups and a lot more downs.

This was my first introduction to the play. The first act is very slow and not much happens. By the time intermission hit, I was sure I had missed something since it seemed like literally nothing major had happened. The second and third acts definitely make up for the slow start, though.

Annette Benning, Tracy Letts, and Benjamin Walker are all sensational. Top notch performances. Francesca Carpanini is a great Ann. The actors definitely make the most out of what seems like very little direction from Jack O’Brien. However, based on O’Brien’s previous directing endeavors on Broadway, this is probably a blessing.

I LOVED the set. Absolutely stunning. The lighting does a great job of differentiating the time of day between the three acts.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this one. The first act is a bit of a slog, but the pay off is more than worth it. I can’t believe another season has some to a close! Onwards to 2019-2020!

Mosher wanted to cast black actors as Ann and George. Miller protested that it would not be believable for a black man and a white man to be business partners in the 1940s (as Joe Keller and Steve Deever were), or that an interracial romance would be possible. But apparently it was okay to have the siblings be of different races. Also, there are two supporting couples in this production that are interracial (Michael Hayden and Chinasa Ogbuago, and Jenni Barber and Nehal Joshi).

I have seen at least one regional production where Ann and George Deever were both played by actors of color, while the Kellers were played by white actors. I've also seen at least one regional production with an all-black cast. The whole situation makes little sense, and I've wondered if there was some other friction between Mosher and Miller, and this was a pretense to get rid of him. Who knows. I haven't seen this production yet so I can't comment on what does or doesn't work.

TODAYTIX Rush last evening -- 5/23 -- ORCH M6. Great seat at a steal.

Second viewing of the show since I saw it right before Opening. The cast was even stronger than the first time and more evolved. Bening and Walker are the highlights and Letts has grown into the role nicely since I saw him the first time. Solid Production.
