It's not the Zionists in this thread calling people "pure human scum.""
No, the Zionists are the ones burying their heads in the sand about what’s happening in Palestine.
Granted, calling people scum isn’t going to move the needle one way or another. I just also simply can’t believe we live in an age where this atrocity is literally being documented on social media, by civilians on the ground, and some of y'all are still denying it’s really happening.
Insane. "
1) I am a Zionist who has repeatedly acknowledged the horrors of WAR, and condemned Netanyahu. Many Zionists loathe him, and do not support all actions of the WAR. Refusing to fall in line with a false narrative of an imaginary genocide is not "burying our heads in the sand". Just last night, I was discussing the horrors of settler violence. That's not burying my head in the sand. I am perfectly willing to criticize Israel and its administration - but I'm not going to spread Hamas propaganda while I do it. If you are using numbers supplied by the Gaza Ministry of Health, that's Hamas. If you're citing a Gazan "journalist", that's Hamas. There is no free press. They run it. Just this week we learned that a prize winning journalist helped protect Palestinians who were on film beating hostages on October 7 and after. He buried footage.
We're calling us insane and accusing us of things that we aren't doing. There are many progressive scientists who regularly criticize actions taken by Israel and Israel and Israelis. But the very concept of being "anti-Zionist" implies a complete eradication of Israel, and that is not something that the overwhelming majority of Jews are ever going to agree with.
I'm so tired of having the same conversation over and over and over and having to debunk lies that have been spread by a terrorist organization that hates not only all of us Jews, but all of us westerner too. I do not understand what is happening when so many people are suddenly listening to terrorists who hate them and sympathizing with them and calling them resistance fighters. It is terrifying to see just how many people are spreading their falsehoods.
And yes, it makes many Jews feel unsafe to here a pro-Palestinian narrative right now because people are murdering us in the diaspora while screaming about Palestine. That's doesn't mean we don't care about innocent Palestinians - it means that the legitimate peace movement is infested with legitimate hate and violence.
"
I think several different issues are being collapsed together here.
You can be a proud Jew, condemn Netanyahu and settler violence, and care deeply about Palestinian suffering. But you can also oppose Israeli government policy without being a Hamas supporter or an antisemite.
And calling Gaza’s Ministry of Health figures “Hamas propaganda” is far too simplistic. The ministry operates under Hamas-controlled authorities, and its figures have limitations, but the UN, WHO, and other international organizations routinely use them while acknowledging those limitations. That’s very different from saying the numbers are fabricated.
Likewise, calling the genocide allegation an “imaginary” or “false” narrative isn’t really defensible as a matter of fact. The ICJ has not ruled that Israel committed genocide, but it has found that Palestinians in Gaza have plausible rights under the Genocide Convention and issued provisional measures. That’s a serious legal proceeding, not simply people parroting Hamas.
And Hamas’s crimes do not make Palestinian civilians responsible for Hamas, just as the Israeli government’s actions don’t make Jews around the world responsible for Israel. October 7 was horrific. Hostage-taking is indefensible. So is the killing and deprivation of Palestinian civilians. Those things can all be true simultaneously.
Finally, antisemitism absolutely deserves condemnation, and I understand why Jews feel particularly unsafe when antisemitic violence is carried out in the name of Palestine.
But there’s an important distinction between antisemitism and criticism of Israel, just as there’s a distinction between supporting Palestinian rights and supporting Hamas.
You don’t have to choose between Israeli lives and Palestinian lives.
Acknowledging Palestinian suffering isn’t “listening to terrorists,” and condemning Hamas doesn’t require ignoring what is happening to Palestinian civilians.
How is what you’re doing not the textbook definition of burying your head in the sand? Come on…
