Actually, in this instance, no, you cannot be fired for airing a difference of opinion without it costing a great deal of money. Union employees are not at-will employees, they are on contracts and those contracts govern how they can be terminated and how they can be disciplined and for what reasons.

We do not know the terms of Segers' departure from Hadestown. His contract was likely bought out or ended on some kind of negotiated terms as he did not do anything to merit termination for cause. And that is very different from what Trimm is alleging here.
