I think Amanda should stick to the classic ingenue roles.
Amanda is not a comedienne.
I would agree with that, if Mean Girls did not exist. But her deadpanning those lines made them funny to me.
"Why are you white?"
"I'm a mouse. Duh."
^ Agreed. I love her as an actress, loved her as Cosette, but I don't think she fits either of the leads in Wicked. I would've never thought of her for this if it weren't for the article.
DECLARK i dont know who you are, i havent said two words to you, or about you, so its sad that you must insult me for no reason. but as usual that says more about you than me.
I will just quote Andrew Loyd Webber and say Love Conquers All!
kiss! kiss!
SueStorm, I'm sorry that we got off on the wrong foot. I'm typically much more agreeable. As a new member, welcome to the BWW Boards. Sorry, we bite. Just not too hard.
Like the general consensus of people posting (and as I have said), Seyfried is the wrong choice for the role. She is talented, but not in the ways required to play the role.
In my opinion, they would be doing wonders if they would cast Megan Hilty. Heck, I would even enjoy seeing Laura Bell Bundy tackle the role for film (but her name is well known enough). I fear that they'll let someone like Ms. Spears play the role though. And as much as I love the Cheno and Idina, they are both too old to return to the roles these days. They did great jobs on stage, but its time to let someone else immortalize the roles.
I'd rather have Glenn Close as Morrible. In my ideal world it would be Liza Minnelli.

I can't find the article right now, and I can't remember which one it was, but either Idina or Kristen made a public statement saying that they were not interested in reprising their role in a movie.

Hopefully after Rent Idina took a lesson from Fredi Walker and now knows when she is too old to be reprising a stage role on screen.

DECLARK, thank you so much! I appreciate that. It takes a real man to say that. something that unfortunately seems to be in short supply in these parts. You should start feeling better now, i took the pins out of your VOODOO DOLL
As for Amanda, she deserves props! shes not saying she should get the role, just that she would love it, and admits her talent her singing is just not there yet. thats huge for an actress to admit!! Also, i will disagree that shes not funny. she was very funny in Mean Girls, and she is hilarious on Talk Shows EVERYTIME ive seen her!
Idina and Cheno were too old to play the roles in the original production too.
In fact, Cheno has made a career out of playing roles that she looked way too old for. Why stop now?

Wouldn't she be better making a cameo as the Goat in a revival of THE GOAT, OR WHO IS SYLVIA? Lord knows, she sounds like one...
In all seriousness, she'd be a decent Lady Larken

Well, Namo, I'm going to hope that WICKED is a big enough commodity to not rely on someone like Spears to sell a ticket.
After all, the First National Tour is making it's 4th stop in Houston this summer. If this run is like any of the last three, it will be completely sold out for the entire run before the production has its opening night. That's pretty powerful...

I don't think that's what Namo is referring to.
Oh... I forgot about my LBB reference. I don't know if she could do the role... her range may not get up into the stratosphere like Cheno's. but it may be interesting... Didn't she understudy it or do it on stage. I don't keep up with WICKED's revolving doors of leading ladies.
I'm that the film version would probably just include "Popular" and the "Thank Goodness" as her big songs and I would think that Seyfried could get through those songs.
I would be that most of the big stuff in the Opening Number could be cut or modified for her.
She has the three things that are going to help her get the role...A recognizable name/face, proven ability to "sing" and blonde hair (as they will want an actress who is known to have blonde hair in real life.)
I think... No. She can sing, but she's no Louise Dearman or Kristin Chenoweth

"Good News" has a higher tessitura than any of Cosette's songs and Amanda Seyfried could barely get through those. Especially Galinda's last note.
I'm not sure if Wicked alone could sell movie tickets. Everyone said the same thing about Phantom having high ticket sales, after all, and that was a major flop.
Well, I just think that the other Glinda's have been better than she is... I also find her voice a little annoying. And ohh, I love Phantom xD
We know Emma Stone can sing...I'd love to see her in whichever role she's vocally better for.
And I'd be thrilled with Megan Hilty.
Just not Anne Hathaway. And not (God help us) Katharine McPhee.
Ariana Grande is a terrific singer and has a huge following...but again, not sure which would be her role. Nessa, perhaps.
I guess it's just become trendy to hate Seyfried, because to me, her comments seem humble and admirable. She admits that she is not ready for a role like Glinda, and that she needs two years of vocal lessons before she'd be ready for such a role. That seems much more mature and realistic than someone jumping into a role for stunt casting.

No, it's just very RUDE towards a whole generation of audiences and actors to even consider her for a role like this, while there are people like Megan Hilty out there.
She will never be ready for such a role. The basics are not there.
She is only trying to manipulate the filmmakers, who, sadly have no knowledge of the fine, fine art of acting through song, if they take this seriously.
Oh my, imagine how glorious and heavenly the Cosette scenes in Les Mis could have been......
You know your film failed as "I dreamed a dream" is considered the highlight of the film....
For a Wicked film they probably hire a "celeb-horny" director again, who takes Anne Hathaway as Nessarose and put her on the poster, leaving the audiences confused about the film, "is this film about a girl in a wheelchair and 2 little witches have a small part too"? And of course hype all Nessarose's scenes. Oh no, that would be too weird, just make her Elphaba. We lower the keys and make her cry through songs. Who cares. Let's take Amanda Seyfried as Glinda to match the "singing quality" of both, and let's just make "dancing through life" the highlight of the film with Justin Timberlake. Who cares about Defying Gravity and the Wizard and I. Who cares about singing anyway?

I feel your pain regarding filmakers, however, I know many Les Mis haters, and one thing they all agree is that I dreamed a dream is the best song in the show.
Also the publicty for the film and the film are often very different concepts. Filmmakers don't make the trailers and many don't have a say in the publicity in general. They're work is to make the film and the marketing people's work is to convince the audience to see it. A smart director allows them to market their film in order to get people in the theaters which is after all the most important thing in moviemaking.

Ok, PoTO is one of the major reasons I care about theater at all, so I'm baised.... but I need to say this:
The film of PoTO is terrible. Emmy Rossum is the best part of the film. Patrick Wilson is okay at best. The biggest problem with PoTO is Gerard Butler's "screaming" the role. Wrong voice. Wrong look. Mix in the terrible scenery (i.e. the moving arms in the layer) and terrible make-up (i.e. We take the mask off in "Point of No Return" and his face and hair gets worse and worse by the shoot... is the Phantom allergic to air?). These are the reasons PoTO flopped.
As a commodity PoTO should have been a big enough name to sell tickets. What killed it commerically on its opening weekend was releasing the score before the film so we could all hear how bad Gerard Butler was before seeing it, a limited release, and the word of muth reviews that followed a limited release. A wide release with a CD released the Tuesday AFTER the opening date would have probably given the trite and terrible film a struggling chance to make a bit of cash. However, it crashed and burned, and we're all the better for it. I would hate for that film to be considered remotely good because it had a strong commerical draw.
However, WICKED also draws families and the young girls. It's nname value is probably higher than PoTO's has EVER been. It is basically Star Proof. Remember, WICKED made Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth the household names they are today. People outside the theatre community did not know either of these ladies until WICKED. So the film stands a chance with name alone.
In casting the film, they would be smart to cast a big name as The Wizard and put real TALENT in the lead roles. Heck, they could even name cast Morrible if they had to. Let the film MAKE stars like the Broadway show did (and has done).

Well, Ann Hathaway would be a little old for the role, but five years ago she would have KILLED in the role. Girl is a great comedienne! Right now, of the movie stars who could do the role, I'd still say she was top of the list.
Of people on their way up, I'd say Becca Tobin who plays Kitty on "Glee" might be wonderful in the film.
