If the Sweeney Todd movie was just being made now, Amanda and Eddie would be cast as Joanna and Anthony, right?

They couldn't handle the score. It was painful listening to them in the Les Miz movie although Redmayne redeemed himself a little with "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables."
Well the Sweeney film recorded the vocals in the studio. So the studio could make anything happen. Plus, the challenging KISS ME was cut.
Anyway, I'm not big fans of them or anything, I just couldn't stop thinking Joanna and Anthony while watching the Les Mis film. The characters are quite similar, although Joanna and Anthony are more developed.

Would love to see them as Liesl and Friedrich in the upcoming live TV version of THE SOUND OF MUSIC.
...just kidding...
Amanda's voice is not strong enough for Joanna...and I FELL IN LOVE with Eddie Redmayne while watching Les Miz...and he probably could sing Anthony quite well...or anything else he wants to sing...:)
^ Johanna
Joanna is from another Sondheim show, Sondheim fan
Oops, I made the same mistake, lol. Too much reading on Twitter about Joanna from RHOM.
Ugh, she's annoying. And needs to go away. And really pretty.
Agreed. But I don't like Adriana either. Team Karent.
I still don't understand how anyone understands Mama Elsa without subtitles.
If there is a Spanish-language Sweeney Todd, I vote Mama Elsa as Lovett
LOL, it is quite difficult, but she really does make the show.
And Elsa as Lovett is kind of brilliant!
Their voices don't mix well. At least, I don't think so.
Mama Elsa would be great as Fosca in an all spanish language version of Sondheim's PASSION or Madame Armfeld in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC with Charro as Desiree.
Eddie Redmayne was actually a nice surprise. I'll take his Marius over someone like Nick Jonas any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Amanda Seyfried was simply horrific. A bleating goat could've sung Cosette better.

The first time I saw the Les Miz movie, my friend whisper to me that Redmayne sounded like Kermit the Frog. I totally disagreed. Seeing the movie a 2nd time tonight, I did hear Kermit the Frog quite a bit as he sang. The reprise of Heart Full of Love was probably the most Kermitesque.
I thought Eddie sounded great. Quite a surprise. I love Amanda as an actress and she did a great job with, let's face it, a crappy role, but her voice sounds much better in her mid-range than her high range. She had that horrible Disney Snow White vibrato on every note.
Truly, Anthony and Johanna are equally lame roles, but I think they could have brought out something interesting in them. They'd certainly have been better than the two boring pieces of wood they got to play the roles in the Burton movie. They practically blended into the scenery every time they showed up. I don't know if I'd want to hear Amanda sing it, though.

Amanda Seyfried could have a pretty soprano voice, but she just doesn't have the training. Her breath support is too lacking and she approaches the high notes from under them instead of from above. She definitely doesn't have the chops for Johanna at this point. Johanna's high note are more difficult than Cosette's because they're on some very weird vowels.
Eddie Redmayne sounds good but he demonstrated a lot of tension as he sang--that could become a problem if he continued singing as a career.
