American Psycho: The Musical?

I just watched American Psycho last night, and all I can say is wow. If you haven't seen it, watch it! If you have a strong stomach, that is....
Doing my normal research after I see a movie, I noticed that Duncan Shiek is doing a musical about it. All I can say is..... How? I mean, it's not like horror stories haven't been translated well to the stage (i.e. Sweeney Todd), but still.
I also noticed that they did a workshop a couple of years ago. Anybody see or hear anything from it and have an opinion? I'd love to hear more about it!

I just hope he does a good job. This doesn't really excite me and I wish Sheik would have done something totally original. I really enjoyed the music for "Whisper House" and wished that show could have been further developed. I really like his music and hope he can deliver something onstage as good as Spring Awakening. (Which I loved)

Having seen the film myself, I am bewildered as to how anyone could find this a good idea for a musical? It makes as much sense as creating a musical about vampires (mild sarcasm). Just my humble opinion. from RC in Austin, Texas

Firstly the musical is based on the book, not the film, as AMAZING as the film is many things were changed for it.

Also i like the idea of the show and can very much see it working, even the violent scenes, i also like the idea of them just using 80s souning synth music.

Christian Bale's intensity just made this movie for me, I really enjoyed the performances.

However; I shall not be seeing it if they actually make it true to the book/movie. Sweeney Todd and Bonnie and Clyde is about as much stage blood as I can muster. This show would make their average blood flow a paper cut by comparison.

Thinking about it more, I can see how it can translate well into a musical. I can see how they could make Patrick's monolouges into musical numbers, like Sunset Blvd. did. But, how in God's name can they keep it close to the book (which I tried to read but chickened out after skipping to some of the murders)? In my opinion, I'm glad they toned the violence down for the movie. When I go to Broadway, seeing a man shove a tube in a woman and letting a rat loose inside her, while cutting her in half with a chainsaw and continuing to eat her brains is not the sort of thing I'd like to see....

The book is great, the movie is a dud except for Christian Bale's performance. If anyone else played Patrick Bateman in the film- it would have flopped. The direction was just plain bad.

We need a STAR playing Bateman. I say if the material is good, Ryan Gosling should make his Bway debut as Patrick Bateman.... Wishful thinking, I know.

Benjamin Walker has been involved in the latest readings.

But I honestly wonder if this is something that will ever fully materialize. Duncan Sheik's become one of those composers who likes announcing he's working on this or on that, and then little comes of it. The last few things he's workshopped have not been well received.
