I didn't see a thread when I searched for this new musical which just started previews at New World Stages, so apologies if one already exists. Has anyone seen this?? I'm very curious to hear thoughts and opinions on this as I have a couple of slots to fill when I'm in the city next week. Also wondering what the running time for this is. Thanks!

According to reviews on show score the runtime is 2 hrs and 40 minutes. It has very mixed reviews on there
Oh this show was wonderful, I loved it deeply. Running time was about two hours and 15 minutes. Enjoy all!
Oof. I feel badly saying anything, since I fear the reviews will be harsh enough, but this was beyond mediocre. Clearly, must have been a hit show where it premiered in Arizona, and where it should have stayed.

I just couldn’t with this one. I have lived in NYC for 19 years. I have seen thousands of shows. Since the return last fall, I have been averaging 4-5 shows a week. I have a personal motto that I won’t trash anything unless I have seen it all the way thru. Following those rules I have only ever left a show once at intermission (Soul Doctor). This show broke that trend. So, I will not give a review as I find not see the whole thing, but the first act was easily one of two of the most brutal things I have ever sat through in my NYC theatre-going life.

I read in the Playbill that this was based on the life of Tony Valdovinos. After doing some research, I was surprised to learn that Tony is still alive and is just around 20 years young. Although I applaud Tony's efforts, persistence, and fight; I found it to be an odd choice for subject matter.I wonder what was it that singed him out.

The score was mostly okay, but the book and the direction were just an absolute disaster. I went in really wanting to like it, but after the first book scene I found myself checking the Playbill to see how many songs were left until intermission. The whole show feels so choppy, and there are too many storylines happening for the show to accomplish anything meaningful. So disappointing to see such an expensive looking production of a mediocre show. The cast was far too large, and no one was convincingly high school aged. I don't see a future for this show in NYC, but with some significant editing and a different directorial vision I could see it playing regionally for a bit.
Despite last night being the official opening, only one review (Theatermania) seems to be out so far. Odd.

My husband and I saw this over the weekend and both loved it. The score was catchy and I enjoyed all the performances. Story was compelling.

I saw this a few weekends ago and enjoyed it. There were some storylines that could have been trimmed but the music and choreography were great and it was the best show I saw. There have been regular comp tickets showing up on Show-Score so I get the impression it's not selling well but I definitely recommend it.

I see that Show-Score is still giving out comps for this several weeks into the show so wanted to put in another good word for it. If anything, it is one of the few shows (possibly only?) to have a performance on Memorial Day itself so hope people give it a chance.
