The NY1 critic (who's name escapes me) was saying that this has been a heavy season in volume of shows.

Lack of love for Equus...nothing for the Seagull...really?!
Roma Torre.
They have Alice Ripley on the phone now.
What a bland group of choices. I haven't seen Shrek and know I shouldn't have an opinion about it without doing so but honestly- does this play need to be showered with TONY nominations?
The only category that seems to be "anybody's game" is Featured Actress in a Musical (not that I'm happy about the snub of the [tos] ladies). The rest of the winners jump out at you quite easily.
Thanks western. I knew it was something like that.
I'm in Belgium and I think I can hear the [tos] gang cheering up to here! Yay for them! :)
I'm not sure about featured actor in a musical.
Why weren't Megan and Steph nominated, just Allison?
Hmmmmmm...guess Alice Ripley or Josefina Scaglione will walk away with this one!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this make Raul the second person to be nominated in all performance categories for an actor?
Still getting over Constantine. Seriously?
I'm pretty upset about The Seagull getting shut out. In an incredibly strong season for play revivals, it was (for me) the strongest.
I'm also sad that Bill Irwin didn't get a nomination.
On the flip side, I'm thrilled with next to normal's 11 nominations.
No Steph - boooooooooooo!!!
Raul nominated again - yeahhhh!!!!!!
I'm quite surprised by the 9 TO 5 shut out in the Best Musical category as well, especially since they nominated Parton for the Score. They seemed to really like SHREK over 9 TO 5, especially since they nominated Foster over the other 9 TO 5 leads. I feel bad for Megan Hilty and Stephanie J. Block, must be quite an awkward moment for Janney too.
I was very disappointed by their need to kiss BILLY ELLIOT's ass, I'm a big supporter of the show but David Bologna? Carole Shelley? Those nods could have gone to different performers. But they were all about letting us know they REALLY liked a show, they nominated the whole cast of GOD OF CARNAGE and in the process left out some very buzzed-about performances like Carla Gugino's, Kristin Scott Thomas', and Tovah Feldush. They also left out Bill Irwin and Daniel Radcliffe from the Best Actor race.
And that nod to ROCK OF AGES for Best Direction came out of left field, good for them.
This is the most disappointing list of nominees I can recall. Soooo many outstanding performances were overlooked.
David Bologna? REALLY??????
Carole Shelley???????
I liked Billy Elliot, but come one....
Shelley has NOTHING to do, and Bologna sings one song.

It almost seems like they had to throw ROA a bunch of noms just to avoid giving 9 to 5 a respectable amount.
The design awards are pretty iffy as well.

As silly as the show may be (I don't even really love it), Constantine is actually very, very good (both vocally and acting wise (especially comedicly)) in ROA. I think Craig Bierko is a better actor in a better part in Guys and Dolls, but what can I do lol?
I agree adamgreer, Shelley plays a thankless role and David Bologna is okay. I'm mostly upset about Shelley's nod though, so many other performances deserved to be on there: Susan Blackwell, Heidi Bleickenstaff, Kathy Fitzgerald, hell even Mary Testa had a better role than Shelley!
They just basically wanted to kiss BILLY ELLIOT's ass and on the other hand, they wanted to let 9 TO 5 how much they disliked it.

Janki, it's Alice's.
Ok, here come my rants.
I have mixed feelings about Rock of Ages getting nominated, can't believe Shrek got nominated and am so bummed that [tos] got the shaft for Best Musical.
Totally sucks that The Seagull got the shaft for Best Revival of a Play.
It's Guys and Dolls vs. Pal Joey this year...in an alternate universe. They'll either give it to Hair or West Side Story for sure.
Totally forgot about Soul of Shaolin.
Raul Esparza for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play...in your face, Jeremy.
I don't have an opinion on Constantine getting a nod.
Stockard Channing...seriously. Megan and Stephanie both get the shaft (second time for Stephanie in my opinion). I still think the Tony is Alice Ripley's. Unless one of these nominees pulls an Idina.
I'm actually surprised that David Bologna got a nod.
Yay, Jennifer and Carole!!!!!!
Wow, I bet Arthur Laurents is gonna be raising some hell tonight!
"Still getting over Constantine. Seriously?"
Yes, seriously, Constantine. Well deserved.

I am happy for "Shrek" and Sutton. I am a little disappointed that 9 to 5 didn't get more nominations, because I have liked the clips I have seen for both shows(Shrek and 9 to 5).
My three biggest disappointments:
1. The Seagull was not nominated for Best Revival
2. [tos] was not nominated for Best Musical
3. Constantine?!?!?!??
I'm confused. Don't David Bologna and Frank Dolce split the performances?

the design awards are EXTREMELY poor.
9 to 5 had a brilliant set design. Billy elliots was miserable.
