I loved Andy Karl in 'Rocky.' He gave one of the best leading Broadway performances I've seen in years. I still get sad every time I pass the Winter Garden. I keep thinking they'll put the 'Rocky' sign back up.
Anyway... What are his Tony chances for 'On the Twentieth Century'? Could he get a makeup Tony for 'Rocky'? Really thought he deserved to win over Neil Patrick Harris. I LOVE ANDY KARL!
Firstly - welcome to the boards, where you have started strong on a topic that will create a surefire thread full of responses mocking your original post.
That being said -
No, why would they ever put the Rocky signage back up…?
And no, he can't get a "makeup" Tony because if he is nominated it will be in a different category.
And no, he should not have won over Neil Patrick Harris.

Kevin Kline won a Tony for the role in the original production, so it's of course possible in a category that, right now, still is very up in the air.
Oh no... Already an underdog here. I feel just like Rocky! LOL!!
Thanks for clarifying... Just a big Andy Karl fan here; I really want him to win a Tony! Loved him ever since I saw 'Edwin Drood.' Or 'Edwin Drool' LOL.
Well, we can definitely agree on one thing - I drooled through the entirety of 'Drood.'
Why don't we make this a more worthwhile conversation and talk about Actors in a Featured Role in a Musical nomination predictions this season. Anyone?
Welcome Skimbleshanks.
I don't think it's a silly thread at all.
While it may too early to start predicting winners I can easily see Karl getting nominated.
He's terrific. I didn't care for Rocky but his performance blew me away.
And as Kad mentioned it's an award winning role.

Of the shows so far I'd say Jay Armstrong Johnson and Clyde Alves from On the Town have the best shot. Other possibilities are Fred Applegate from the Last Ship, David St. Louis from Side Show and Tony Danza from Honeymoon in Vegas. However, with so many other musicals set to open I could see most if not all of these people not being nominated
They'll nominate Danza for his name and effort in producing Honeymoon, I think. I saw both Side Show and The Last Ship and unfortunately don't know or remember either of those actors… but the two from On The Town are memorable and I hope at least one is nominated!

I thought Andy Karl was excellent in Rocky, but he would not have won over either NPH or Jefferson Mays.
Isn't Michael Cerveris also considered supporting for Fun Home? I would think he's a lock for a nomination.
Kelsey Grammer-Finding Neverland?
Michael Mcgrath-On the 20th Century?
David Burtka-It Shoulda Been You?
Christian Borle-Something Rotten
Tony Danza-Honeymoon in Vegas
Agreed, mattmarkowski. I thoroughly enjoyed Rocky myself and thought Andy Karl was fantastic in the leading role… but the competition was crazy last year.
I thought Michael Cerveris was a lead, but whatever category he's in, he will win
all of the leading men in musicals last year were amazing. Even other people who weren't nominated like Steve Pasquale, Norbert Leo Butz, and Zack Braff were awesome

I liked the On the Town boys too, and Tony Danza was fine. Other possible nominees from shows that haven't opened include Kelsey Grammer-Finding Neverland, Brandon Uranowitz-American in Paris, Max von Essen-American in Paris, David Burtka-It Shoulda Been You, Tom Hewitt-Zhivago, Paul Nolan-Zhivago, Christian Borle (is he featured?)-Something Rotten, Andy Karl-On The Twentieth Century, and Corey Cott-Gigi. Anybody I missed?
Nice to see the Andy Karl love coming in... The initial response was cattier than my favorite show, 'Cats'!!
Would love to see the On the Town boys go up against Andy. Though you are all probably right about Cerveris...wherever he lands. (Cut me some slack; I loved 'Sweeney' too...)
Anyone from An American In Paris?
Corey Cott in Gigi?
Roger Rees in 'The Visit,' or will that be more of a Leading Role?
I really wish they'd give JCM some kind of honor or award now that he's finally performing as Hedwig ON Broadway after all these years.
My sincerest apologies on my initial response, skimble. I was preparing for the worst, but this is now a worthwhile thread. Hah!

I think theres another featured actor in On the 20th Century too besides Karl and McGrath. Is Jason Daniely featured in The Visit? Theres also some featured roles in The King and I

My early thoughts for nominees would be:
Christian Borle
Jay Armstrong johnson
Clyde Alves
Corey Cott
Tony Danza
I didn't see Rocky, but based on what I heard of Karl on Sirius, I'd say he sang the crap out of an awful score. Tough to win a Tony with that, especially compared with NPH, Mays, and Pinkham.
i doubt any of the On the Town boys will be nominated. Don't think Corey Cott will be nominated either. I hope Andy Karl wins
Greased - You almost scared me away from the forum forever
I guess I should have slowly unveiled my love for Andy Karl LOL. Remind me not to post about Whitney Bashor for awhile (oops ... too late).
