It is a ravishing score. Its just in the service of the wrong source material. The original novel is just as cold and uninvolving and is far too faithfully adapted. I just wish he'd picked a different book.
"The tour, starring Sarah Brightman was equally well-staged. It always struck me as curious that it returned to the same West End house, the Prince of Wales."
Wait, what? There was an original tour that went back to the POW? I had no idea...
The tour went back to the Prince of Wales, but this time starring Kathryn Evans as Rose and Alex Hanson as Alex, I saw both and enjoyed both, one of ALW most underrated score, very akin to Sondheim this time.
Not only does it have a beautiful musical score but it is also superbly sung by the cast! Even the recitatives are well worth the listen! I am glad I saw the show both in London and on Broadway.
Loved Ann in Aspects she was great -the show which i loved when i saw the original- I recently saw Walnut Street Philadelphia Version and they were all great but the show really bored me and I realized how strange the story was...also If I heard LOVE CHANGED EVERYTHING once more I was gonna scream...it seemed like they sang it played it hummed it for 2 straight hours ..they overused it for every chg/costume/set/aaaaah made me crazy
