I'm surprised she hasn't been back on broadway after she played Belle. She was amazing! It got me thinking, what other roles could she play?
Here are some roles I think she would be great for:
Eva in Evita
Sister Mary Robert in Sister Act
Alice Beineke in The Addams Family
Elphaba in Wicked
Katharine in Newsies
Fiona in Shrek
Mrs. Lovett
Mama Rose
Desiree
Sweet Charity
Velma Kelly
Fosca
Just cast her in everything!
was hoping that shed get cast as Mary Roberts on the tour, but guess not.
Would've been cool to see Raven as Deloris then Annelise as Mary Roberts. :)
Alice Beineke? A mother of a teenager?
I have nothing against Ms. Von Der Pol, as I haven't seen her perform live in any capacity, but I am always surprised by how often she is mentioned on this board. Does she have an army of Disney fans suggesting her for every role or does her manager/agent just have really good social networking know-how?
You want her to play the mother role? WTF. She's not even old enough to play Evita.
She is the youngest person to professionaly play the role. Over ten years ago.

This is already a thread about this.

As I mentioned in it I think she would be great as Cinderella in 'Into the Woods'.

"Sister Mary Robert in Sister Act
Alice Beineke in The Addams Family
Fiona in Shrek"
All three of these shows have closed on Broadway. How on earth is she going to play these parts on Broadway? I also highly doubt any of them will see a revival.
I do not get what people think is so incredible about her. Yeah she's good and everything, but she's not some revolutionary actress sent from god above...

I hated Annelise as belle.Vocally she was way to powerful.Acting was fine. However, she would make a GREAT EVA Peron. When i saw her as belle all i could think of "why do i feel like im watching eva peron dancing with kitchen utensils" so yeah her voice would fit perfect for eva.She is Age eligible
She has that belting, full throated vibrato; like Judy Garland had. It's unique these days in a world of smooth pop belters.
I can also see her as Mary Poppins!
@TheLadyoftheWood I just thought vocally and look wise she could suit those roles.
She would make a good Mabel.
And... that's all I got.
i completely agree with MrMidwest, shes incredibly unique and very reminiscent of Judy.
i'd love to see her as Eva or in Chicago.
p.s.
i also noticed how much she is mentioned on here, let alone in Wicked threads.
I know she does and loves Theatre,
but I don't think she had a good time at B&B.
Maybe she thought it would be more of a Splash,
instead of a good BWay debut that showed promise.
Lest we forget that van der Pol was in another musical in New York after BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, having done VANITIES at Second Stage. She was absolutely astonishing in that production.
I've heard only good things about her in that show.

Put her in as Jonny in Spring Awakening or as the Mum in Hairspray in everything I say including Roger in Rent
I have to echo SomethingWicked's comments--Van Der Pol was astounding in VANITIES, completely elevating what was otherwise a plodding and unmemorable musical. I had never heard of her prior to seeing it, and I was blown away.
She played Marian (the role Molly Camp will play in the Broadway production) earlier this year in the Pasadena Playhouse production of THE HEIRESS.
