re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

The Master is back? Wha? How is that possible. I like how in Doctor Who, characters, like the Daleks, are killed off yet they're not.

"maybe we can get the Donna vs. the Master throwdown I've been dreaming of for ages. :)"

Whoa yeah... I'd love to see Donna give the Master whatfor! re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Spider, John Simm has been seen on set -- a BLOND haired John Simm no less.

As for the Master coming back... don't forget that ring at the very end of Last of the Time Lords...

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Yeah, the ring (whatever was up with that) was a total "just in case we get Simm back" clause. And to be fair, the Master has always had a history of surviving...well, everything. When he ran out of regenerations he started body-snatching, and he got through the Time War, too. So what's a little cremation to stop him from living to homoerotically antagonize the Doctor another day?

Also, I adore John Simm more than I can say, and I loved his interpretation of the Master as Ten's out-of-control id, penchant for the Scissor Sisters and all, so in my head this isn't the least bit contrived. :)

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Have you seen the 90's Doctor Who movie with the Master invading a body. DUMBEST thing ever, although, I quite liked the 8th doctor. Hated the American companion though. BLAH

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Really? I ended up kind of liking Grace. Especially when the Doctor asked her to come be his companion and she asked him to come be hers instead. I liked her for being so self-assured in that way - it makes for kind of a sad contrast with the New Who companions who are all like MY LIFE WILL NEVER BE COMPLETE WITHOUT YOU, DOCTOR. Grace gets a little crush on him, ends up having some fun with the adventuring, and can see the appeal of outer space, but she has her own life. I thought that was nice.

The TVM in general, though? Appalling, horrible stuff - just totally misconceived on so many levels. I still can't look at Eric Roberts without having nightmarish flashes of him hamming it up about "alvays drezzing for ze ocassion!" Oy.

I think it was maybe the actress herself I didn't like. I just didn't sense she was "real"

(sorry to threadjack)

Has anyone seen PRIMEVAL? I ran out of DOCTOR WHO on Netflix and I saw this show as preview in one of my DW DVD-so I ordered it. Seen 3 episodes and I like the show! its like Doctor Who..

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Fair enough, Spidey. She was no great actress; I'll definitely give you that. :) (But who in the TVM was? Even Paul McGann couldn't really build a characterization until his Doctor got audios.)

Today's update:

David T and Catherine T were both on set first thing but David and possibly Catherine have since been whisked off to London. They filmed a lot of stuff with extras running about this morning but when I went down there on my lunchbreak all was quiet!

Now getting excited for the Easter special and all the press around that *g*

Oh and the Who crew have parked all their stuff in my old school!

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Interesting...thanks for the update. re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

BTW, Russel T. Davies was on the BBC Breakfast show this morning, talking mostly about PLANET OF THE DEAD, but he did mention/confirm that Bernard Cribbins will be the 10th Doctor's final companion. The video is up on YT.

Thanks Kec I've got it on my Skyplus waiting at home-along with John Barrowman on Paul O'Grady by the time I get there :)

Saw Russell wandering around the Bay on Sunday, must be the 5th or 6th time now and I still don't have the nerve to say anything!

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Apparently DT will be on an early morning radio program -- Christian O'Connell. They're taking questions from listeners, so I just posted one. I will be very surprised if they read it out, but since the show starts at 6 a.m. UK time, I'm not about to get up and check...

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Just watched PLANET OF THE DEAD. It wasn't great but not bad either. Christina (the girl) was good. I liked her because she bossed the Doctor around. The end was the best because it stated a prophecy and we all know what that prophecy is going to be if you are a TRUE Doctor Who fan.

Do we? I have an idea, but it doesn't seem definitive by any means. What's your theory?

Anyway, I liked "Planet of the Dead" a whole lot better than "The Next Doctor". It was no more original than the latter, but it didn't feel so much like RTD just trotting out his old lines yet again. Also, there was less racefail than I thought there would be, so that's a point. And the preview for the next special looked nifty.

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Well, she said "Knocking 4 times." That is the signature drum beat of The Master.

Oh I agree. This was WAAAAAAAAAY better than "The Next Doctor" which I really didn't like at all. The next episode looks really good. But the prophecy was the best part of the episode to me, just the way she was saying it, the music, and the Doctor's expression.

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

I very much enjoyed Planet of the Dead. Lee Evans was very funny. The Trivitores reminded me a little bit of the Hath from THE DOCTOR'S DAUGHTER, and the flying creatures gave me the creeps. I didn't get the prophecy at first, but then realized she must have been talking about the Master.

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

The next episode looks terrifying - seems like RTD is channeling Steven Moffat, which is no bad thing! Though having heard the title before seeing the trailer, I was hoping for the return of the Ice Warriors...
#193

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

I am actually REALLY looking forward to RTD leaving and Moffat taking over. I think the darker story plots fit Doctor Who to a tee.

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

RTD doesn't need to channel Moffat to do horror - I think "Midnight" is as scary as "Blink".

And spidey, I had the same idea about the knocking, but why would the Doctor do the four knocks? Archangel is down and gone.

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

OH MY GOD! I'm completely and totally obsessed! OBSESSED! I'm only bout halfway through season two, and even though I LOVE David Tennant, I gotta admit I'm a total Christopher Eccleston fan now. Maybe it's because he was my first introduction of what the doctor should be, but I just found him so funny and sexy.

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

I think your "preference" is usually the first doctor you see. Tennant was mine, so of course I prefer him.

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

Same with me -- my first DR Who episode was "Daleks in Manhattan" from series 3, so DT is "my" Doctor.

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

I'm amazed you stuck with the show if that was your first exposure to it, kec. *shudder* Worst. Episodes. Ever. Except maybe "Journey's End".

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

The only reason I stopped on it in the first place was the title -- I'm a Native New Yawker, who was living in Switzerland at the time. re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers* I was impressed enough to catch the second half then missed the rest of the series till I think The Sound of Drums. Then I came back to the U.S., just in time for BBCA's Dr Who marathon prior to the second series being aired for the first time, and the rest, as they say, is history...

re: Any Doctor Who Fans? *Spoilers*

My first memory of Doctor Who is Colin Baker being crushed by a giant polystyrene gravestone - it's a wonder I became a fan at all :) Fortunately, thanks to Target Books and BBC Video I discovered the genius of Tom Baker and Patrick Troughton's incarnations and I kind of got sucked in...
