Coming into Manhattan today on a whim but with a bag of work. Any suggestions for places where it's easy to linger over a few cups of coffee and get work done. Just looking to be productive around my shows.

I like Romeo and Juliet on 42nd and 11th. It's right next to the Peter Norton Space -- where Signature did their shows before moving to the new complex, and more recently the home of the late Pearl Theatre Company. Good coffee, lots of space to sit, and usually not too crowded.

There's a Starbucks on 39th and 8th that has an upstairs seating area that's not as immediately noticeable and thus tends to be a little less crowded than some of the other places in the area (caveat that I'm usually only at that one on weekdays, so I don't know how Saturday may differ).

Go to the cafe at Signature. I do work there all the time.

It's not a café per se, but the bar/lounge area at The Stinger inside the Intercontinental on 44th is an awesome space to hang and do work while passing time.

I vote for the Signature. I work there all the time - lots of space, good tea/coffee and food, and a great vibe.
Kava, which is close by on 42nd St, is also very good.
Romeo and Juliet has a reputation for being REALLY slow, service wise. People I knew who worked at the Pearl would walk a long block to Kava to get coffee rather than wait at R and J

Funny. I'm at Romeo and Juliet like 2-3 times a week and I've never had a problem with service.

Caffebene on the SW corner of W. 49th Street & Broadway (directly across the Ambassador Theatre).
Large coffee house with nice little areas in the back to sit and do work or kill time.

So excited for you. Give NYC a big kiss for me. I'll be back in November. It's been way too long. If they're selling them already, get a salted caramel hot chocolate at Starbucks for me. Lol. I only allow myself to indulge in them on my NYC vacations.
