Any future for Good Vibrations?

I've not seen it, and have heard mostly negative things, but because like Mamma Mia it's based on songs that many across the country have a great affection for (plus are already humming before the lights even go down), do any of you who've seen Good Vibrations see it being produced regionally, or touring? Or will we never hear of it again?

re: Any future for Good Vibrations?

I think it would be perfect for high schools and colleges since all the characters are that age. Plus, it's not a terribly difficult show to pull off.

I would be insulted to be in college doing Good Vibrations. Geez.
You are young, life has been kind to you. You will learn.

I was just going to type something similar Margo! Theme parks? Sea World maybe? I totally saw something at Sea World similar to GV, when I was a kid.

re: Any future for Good Vibrations?

I think Good Vibrations would do well touring, The people of the beach boys time would and do seem to really like it. They are also the ones who have the money to go to the plays in various cities. To set the record straight, there were NO high school kids in the show, they were mostly late 20's and VERY talented. Again I think if you have SEEN the show and don't like it that is one thing, but to talk about a show being either good or bad that you haven't seen is useless.

with that crowd they could probaly get away with a non-equity cast. no one would care/notice.

re: Any future for Good Vibrations?

Good Vibrations is not very good. I saw it because I think if you want to be serious about all this, you go see them all.

In the show's favor I will say that the civilians in the audience loved the show.

It has a dippy book and the songs are not used well. It was also sort of ugly.

Is there a future for Good Vibrations? Yes, and this will sound bitchy, but it is not meant to be, but the future would be somewhere like Branson where the audiences are just looking for a mindless couple of hours.

It could set up and sit down and play there for months if not longer. Vegas is also a possibility.

The big producing error was thinking that this weak show would work in New York. There is nothing wrong with playing your show only in Branson.

WOSQ, I think you hit the nail on the head and I don't think it is a bitchy or mean thing to say. This type of play does play to audiences that want some mindless entertainment, which anyone can like once in awhile

imsohypertoday, yes they could do it with a non equity cast, I'm sure there are a ton of talented people who are non equity, and that doesn't mean that those who were in the Broadway show were not extremely talented. As posters may have noticed the cast who are/were leaving the show did so for principal/lead roles. I think that says something for the talent in the show, even if you didn't like the show. The critics even, I believe, think that. The problem seemed to be with the story/chor/set.

re: Any future for Good Vibrations?

Do you think that Good Vibrations could be, well, good had it been done w/ a different cast and creative team?

By simply reading the title of this thread, this is what I have to say:

No.

re: Any future for Good Vibrations?

You can all come to my apartment yeilding torches...but I am a very huge Broadway enthusiast and am quite seasoned in the theatre- I know how to appreciate things for what they are and can distinguish the difference between something that I care for and something I hated...I went to see Good Vibrations tonight simply because I didnt want to miss it due to the closing notice (also stemming from my newfound realization of moving foward, taking risks, and not wanting to look back and regret anything). It was out of curiosity and just to see it for the experience and the hell of it...I expected nothing and predicted that I would hate it- Im tired and do not have the will to go into details right this moment- but I LOVED IT! I thoroughly enjoyed myself and thought the production was so very good...I can post more specifics later- But this is my honest opinion and I am willing to risk people thinking less of me- I dont understand why this show was trashed and made out to be so horrible. And I certainly think that this show does not deserve to and shouldnt be closing. It was wonderful in my opinion.

re: Any future for Good Vibrations?

Another thing to consider is that IF the Dogers were to want to declare bankruptcy, Good Vibes would need to close. Unless GV can get funding from other producers. The writing has pretty much been on the wall for the dogers.

Thanks for so many responses! Some of them were written with very little thought or serious intent, but many of you responded quite intelligently. I tend to agree that we haven't seen the last of Good Vibrations. It may not have been classy enough for Broadway, but there are plenty of people like Rusty who have enjoyed it a lot, so I could see it having a non-Equity tour or being produced regionally, which many of you have confirmed.
