Ive done Sleep No More and absolutely LOVED it, and I am wondering if there are any other productions similar that are currently going on. I am traveling to London in a few weeks but will unfortunately be missing Punchdrunk's new production when I am there.

I live in Los Angeles so obviously I would be thrilled to learn about something here, but I am curious what else is being staged around the world. I feel like this type of theatre is becoming popular and I want to know what brilliant companies have caught on.

Seeing this in June...I hear FANTASTIC things. Do a search for the thread, people seemed to really like it.

Third Rail Projects is an environmental theatre company currently performing a show called THEN SHE FELL based on the semi-romantic relationship between Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddel and how that relationship led to the creation of Carroll's most famous works "Alice's Adventure in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass". It's similar to SLEEP NO MORE in structure, but it is far less "free reign". The audience is limited to 15 members per show and each individual is carefully guided through the space to create a much more personal experience. And there are no masks.

It's easily the most viscerally arresting theatrical experience I've had to date. That includes being repeatedly awestruck by SLEEP NO MORE.

Play Esq. & ColorTheHours048 - you win- that is the reason I made the thread! I couldn't help but overhear a couples conversational few weeks ago but couldn't hear much more then "Like Sleep No More but Alice in Wonderland". I've been trying to figure it out since.

However I'm saddened it's not in Los Angeles

Then She Fell is a brilliant evening in the theater. Consider, Here Lies Love, and The Great Comet of 1812, too.

Environmental productions pop up in major theater markets from time to time. I'd be surprised if there weren't any in development in LA right now with the success of Sleep No More and Then She Fell.

The one I really enjoyed in NYC is Speakeasy Dollhouse. Artist Cynthia von Buhler created an art diorama book inspired by the circumstances surrounding the real life murder of her grandfather after Prohibition ended. The play is staged in an arrow bar and alleyway representing her grandparents' two speakeasies and their apartment. You can order various ticket levels that give you evidence to help you solve the murder and if you ask the right questions, the cast gives you clues, props, and important times for events. It plays twice a month, the first Saturday and the following Monday, at a secret location not announced until a few days before the show.

I had the pleasure of seeing one of the first performances of this after interviewing Cynthia at NYCC. The amount of detail she crammed in a few hours of theater in such a small space is astonishing. Her advice is to pick a character to latch onto, order some "tea" at the bar, and see where the night takes you. I went with the son, but I kept getting distracted by the wise-cracking mortuary team stationed in the bathroom.

Can't really agree that Here Lies Love falls into the category of environmental theater. Though the staging does (brilliantly...) surround the audience, aside from dancing with the cast, the audience has little involvement with the production itself.

But to the OP: if you are in NYC in the coming months and have an opportunity to see Here Lives Love...do it! I found it to be the best musical New York has seen in years. Staging, cast, and music are all perfection.

I don't know how much extra time you'll have in London, but Punchdrunk is doing a show at the Britten festival in Aldeburgh (2 hours outside of London) from June 7th- 23rd. Don't know if there are tickets still available, but it's unlike anything Punchdrunk's done- amongst other things it's outdoors and a solo experience.

Have you ever seen nature inside out? When the sun stands at midday and it's as if the world was going up in flames?

Step into the world of Temple Pictures where the Hollywood studio system meets a forgotten hinterland filled with dreamers who exist at the fringes of the movie industry. Here, celluloid fantasy clings to desperate realism and certainty dissolves into a hallucinatory world.

Inspired by Buchner's fractured masterpiece Woyzeck, this theatrical journey follows its protagonists along the precipice between illusion and reality.

Comfortable footwear recommended.
