"I'm afraid I don't understand a thing you are saying.
Ah, Millenials!"

You don't speak English?

And please only participate in a discussion if you have something substantially to say. I have no idea what your opinion on the subject is.

I'm having triggers.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

"Of course it matters! It makes me even angrier that they took the extra step and photo shopped the faces of these white actresses over the faces of the african americans. In the show, they makes tons of references to the color of their skin, so why would Broadway.com think it's approprite to change it?"

This is one of the things that bugged me the most about it too tbh. The photoshopping of white actresses onto the clearly black bodies. And they couldn't even throw in one black actress? Obviously this is just for hits and not really anything important, but it definitely makes me roll my eyes. as does anyone who tries to talk about being colorblind when it comes to race...

Why should they?

This article is about their favourite personalities. Why do you refuse to see people as people?

You would rather see that they put a personality in their "favourite's list" who is not their favourite? They should look past the personality and focus on race?

You think that kind of forced indulgence is helping?

Because of morons like you whose idea of a solution to injustice is to pretend you're above it.

colorblindness when it comes to race doesn't help anyone. regardless of whether you want to admit it, whether you claim to see race or not, racial inequalities and structured racism remain. Color blindness is something white people harp about so that they don't have to admit that white privilege is very much a thing they benefit from, and that racism is very much alive and well.  Whether you see someone as black or not, does not change the fact that they are very much black, and that they will definitely suffer from structured racism daily.

and tbh if you don't get that, this convo is over. i've got no time for your hippie ~we're all people~ bull**** today.

The real moron thinks that "creating a list of your favourite personalities and include someone that is not your favourite, just because of race" is "justice".

What is your solution here?

"colorblindness when it comes to race doesn't help anyone."

It does. It actually is the solution.

People who don't understand this actually keep racism in tact by teaching their kids that there is a very strict separation-line.

Actually, ask any black activist, it really, really isn't. Does ignoring the problem ever work as a solution?  If you ignore something that is broken, does it magically fix itself?

We can be colorblind once structured racism is gone. until then, it honestly does not solve anything. like i said, whether you claim to see it or not changes nothing in black people's day to day lives in this society. all you're doing is making yourself feel better and above it, you aren't truly helping anything.

Get the 7 billion other people on this planet on board, and sure, you'll have a solution. Acting above it all personally isn't going to help anything when racism is very much still occurring.

Do they realize they are actually creating the problem?

Colorblindness actually takes away the problem. That is something else than ignoring.

Children don't see the differences. By reading posts like the topic starter's, they are taught that black people are not equal.

By creating unnecessary "black reel awards", children will ask why they insist on separation. Especially because black people are very well respresented in the mainstream prizes.

The point is, do we, or do we not want separation. If it's separate benches in the bus, or separate award shows does not matter. Is the answer yes or no? It is a choice to be against or in favor of separation.

literally talking to a brick wall would be more productive than this, so thank you for outing yourself as someone i can freely add to my block/ignore list. i advise you actually spend some time looking into race issues/activism, and maybe one day you'll see that colorblindness does nothing but make you feel superior. and black awards shows were created b/c the overly white main award shows consistently ignore the black community. but i'm sure your response will just be that they were inferior and that's why they aren't awarded...goodbye.

I don't understand what you want them to do. In order not to be racist, a person's race should not even be thought about or have any effects on any type of decision-making. If they were to specifically put black people in there to show that they are not racist, then its clear that race does make a difference and have an effect.

lol idk how clear that was

You mean people like in this article who just make a list of a few of their favourit theatrical personalities, who are wrongfully accused as being racist? You would rather like them to lie? To put someone in their list who is not their favourite personality?

This has nothing to do with racism, this is created by people who want to see it and therefore keep it alive.

Actually no, do you even read?

The percentage of black oscar winners is higher than the actual percentage of the black population.

It is even higher in the music industry.

So no need for black reel awards AT ALL.

the problem is is that when dream casting a show with as diverse of a cast as Orange Is The New Black, and picking 8 white women (who as far as i know are also all straight? i'm not super familiar with all of them so correct me if i'm wrong on that), shows some internalized bias tbh. they shouldn't be putting in black people just because they're black, but there really is a problem if at least one does not come to mind when casting that particular show.  If they were dream casting just about anything else, i don't think it'd be as big of a deal. but OITNB and all they can think of as their faves are 8 white women? smh

I do. Very well. Unfortunately some people think it works only in 1 direction.

Separate benches in the bus is racist.

Black reel awards is racist.

It works both ways.

Things that feel good for black people can be 100% racism too. Do you not understand that?

I hate it when people have a double agenda.

No, but there's a job opening at the Spokane chapter of the NAACP for a nice white lady like you.

That's racist! We are both white. How can you offer that idea about a tv show that has also black people in it?
