Why does Anita's dress shop have the same sewing machine it had in the 1957 production?

That sewing machine looks like it dates back to 1897 or something.

and
Carole Shelly
and
Susan Blackwell.

I actually like Maria's dress, but those mini-skirts are mind blowing, wacco-jacco.

I am a little disappointed that A Boy Like That/I Have A Love are in Spanish. I like the fact that Spanish is being incorporated into show, but that is one of the most powerful parts of the show (IMO) and I would have like to have heard those songs in English. Who knows though, I hope to see it in NY and it should be fantastic. Can't wait to see Olivo's Anita and Sacglione's Maria after all the talk!!!

I'm thinking this production is going to be the same as Gypsy. Hideous sets and hideous costumes with the only saving grace being the performances, hopefully.

No your not....

When did I say you couldn't?

But I think they are far from hideous. Rose's dresses/costumes were changed for the better. So hopefully the same will happen with WSS.

I'm surprised that no one commented on the hairstyles (particularly the leading men). Tony and Riff's very modern messed spike look is not out of the 50s.

They original promoted this show as the most true to material and story with real teenagers, spanish, etc. They then cast Matt C. and Karen O. that broke their first goal. Now they have these weird 60-70-80 costumes with today's hairstyles! The biggest problem with this show is that it doesn't know what it want to be. They had a plan (which was great) but slowly have altered more and more away from it... this is what will be the downfall of the show. It needs to know what it is!

I daresay Arthur Laurents knows the purpose of an out-of-town tryout.

I'm sure he will make "proper" use of his time.

Well he kept the stuffed Chowsie and Lamb puppet for GYPSY from City Center to Broadway.

So that makes me a little nervous. But I am sure WSS has a bigger budget, and can afford improvements to the costumes.

Did Matt opt for the higher note in Maria or no? I never cared for his vocals, but I thought his voice worked for "Grey Gardens" and "A Catered Affair," but I'm not so sure here.

The whole production just looks like an eye sore. I wish they would have gone darker in the look
