Looking to make a quick visit to the city first Tuesday-Thursday of April. Looks like I can manage 4 shows.
just wondering your thoughts/suggestions. Currently I’m thinking:
- a return to see Merrily We Roll Along (I loved the show)
- a return to see Sweeney Todd (to see Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster in it)
- Water For Elephants
- Cabaret.

I would rather see new original musicals Lempicka and Suffs instead of the shows you've already seen.

I understand your interest in seeing Merrily again, as I thought it was terrific, and the new leads in Sweeney Todd. But there are a lot of new shows due to open in the spring. Maybe they’ll all be terrible or be of no interest to you.
But I would wait. What if several great, new shows have opened by the first week of April? You will get word of how Tveit and Foster are, and can decide if that’s your preference or if you’re intrigued by something new.
But as with all suggestions, this is my own bias speaking. I like seeing new shows on my rare trips to New York City. (I have only made a repeat visit to a Broadway show once, and that was Phantom, 27 years apart - with our daughter - unborn the first time.) Your mileage may vary. And admittedly, I might be tempted to see Merrily again myself if I were going in April.

I saw The Notebook in Chicago last year and, to my surprise, was completely blown away. Consider adding it to your list.

Lots of good suggestions here. I would add Hell’s Kitchen, which I thought was terrific at the Public.

How about the revival of The Who's "Tommy" at the Nederlander?
I'll throw my 2 cents in here with agreement of a lot that has been said.... Why see shows you've already seen when there is so much new and it sounds like getting to NY doesn't happen very often?
April is the best month to see shows.
Here's what I'm looking forward to most:
Suffs
Cabaret
The Outsiders
Doubt (limited, not sure of dates)
Mother Play
Water for Elephants
Lempicka
Hells Kitchen
Days of Wine & Roses (limited, unsure of dates)
I, personally, am most excited about...
The Notebook
Water for Elephants
Cabaret
Days of Wine and Roses
Doubt

I saw The Outsiders at La Jolla, and it is insanely good!

Cabaret from London is shockingly great.

Definitely Vanya just to see that cast onstage. If the rumors are true Stereophonic is transferring to the Golden in the spring and has gotten raves. Cabaret prices makes Merrily look practically free but if you're willing to spend I'd add that to your list as well.
I'm personally most looking forward to The Who's Tommy and The Outsiders based on the reviews from out of town. Very much looking forward to Lempicka and Suffs as well.
