It's a tricky situation that they themselves created.
They obviously had no way of knowing that their show would actually become relevant thanks to The Crown and Harry and Meghan, or that the pandemic would be so prolonged- but they *did* know that there was no way to guarantee any sort of timeline to coincide a filmed release and Broadway opening back when they decided to go down this route.
Frankly, tapping into the subject matter's zeitgeist is probably the show's best bet for being anything besides a Broadway also-ran.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
