I thought the timeline was supposed to be March/April? Does anyone know the status?
Are we still getting Diana on Netflix?

Apparently it’s all done and edited. They are now wanting to wait until they are in rehearsals to go back to broadway before announcing a release for the film. In hopes of stirring more interest before the show opens. So likely September is my guess for a release

Yeah surely Netflix only cares about viewship and not the Broadway show itself....in an ideal world they'd release it next week to capitalise on the Harry/Meghan scandal.
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

That whole scandal honestly reminded me of the musical. I remember hearing that the film and album were slated to be released in May of this year. Hopefully it won’t be too late when they release it and that we can still see it because I’m really excited to see the show

The Broadway producers don't control when the distributor (Netflix in this case) releases it, so it's highly unlikely it will be purposefully timed to coincide with the show reopening. But that could happen by chance. My guess is there is already a date set for its release and it just hasn't been made public yet.

The intent was to release it on Netflix shortly before the Broadway opening so that could be the hold up. No Broadway opening date set yet; no Netflix premiere date.

The August 2020 announcement stated that the show would be taped (and recorded for a cast album) in September 2020 and aired by Netflix in early 2021 or several months before the new Broadway opening set for May 25, 2021.
Obviously some of those plans changed.
While this is pure speculation, I'm guessing that those involved realize that were the show to be released on Netflix prior to a Broadway opening night --and reviewed by every drama critic in the world who hasn't had a chance to review a new Broadway musical since early 2020--the reception might preclude an actual Broadway opening night.
So it's a tricky situation.

It's a tricky situation that they themselves created.
They obviously had no way of knowing that their show would actually become relevant thanks to The Crown and Harry and Meghan, or that the pandemic would be so prolonged- but they *did* know that there was no way to guarantee any sort of timeline to coincide a filmed release and Broadway opening back when they decided to go down this route.
Frankly, tapping into the subject matter's zeitgeist is probably the show's best bet for being anything besides a Broadway also-ran.

For what it's worth..
In the endless discussions all over television talk shows this week concerning 'the interview', one discussion brought up this musical. One of the hosts said we will have to wait until December to see this on Netflix (not sure of who her sources are, but she was pretty adamant it will be December). The other cohosts didn't even know there was a B'way musical ready to hit the stage, never mind that it would be broadcast on Netflix.

It’s astounding how much media folks are oblivious to a lot. Everyone assumes they have the scoop on everything. I’m sure Andy Cohen (who is pop culture savvy) is unaware of this DIANA musical as well.
