>> the orchestrations are almost identical
Not really.
I started from scratch on most of it -- I may have based the arrangement of a couple of the songs on my work for the demo, but when we hit the studio for the album, we wiped the slate clean - acoustic musicians replaced the MIDI, we approached different singers in different ways, and played to their strengths. Yes, the demo has my sound all over it (FYI, the Broadway producers asked me to produce all the music for their advertising campaigns) -- and through the compression of low-bandwidth internet sound, you may not hear all of it, but believe me, we treated this from scratch... the only exception being "The Mist" -- Lauren's vocal was so good, we chose to use the demo -- a similar situation to Celine Dion for "My Heart Will Go On" -- we kept her vocal, replaced everything else...
I can't wait for the album to ship (we had a meeting with our soon-to-be announced distributor today - looks like a late Jan/early Feb. release slot) - and we can discuss the artistic elements in detail, after everyone actually heard the final. Discussing 30-second clips doesn't lend itself to more than comments on the 30 seconds... and the songs are much longer than that!
I appreciate everyone's interest and I hope to share more about the process in the coming months.
