I have Urinetown auditions in about a month and would like to gear my audition song for Penny -- any suggestions? Definitely a belter, high isn't a problem.
"TWO 'PEES' IN A POD" from GREY GARDENS.
I was in a production of Urinetown recently - you can see a pic from the show here

On the audition flyer for the show - the director suggested something from a "modern" show eg. Kander and Ebb or Kurt Weill. Maybe one of the powerhouse songs from "The Rink"? Cabaret (though this has been beaten to the ground) could work too.
Hope this helps!
How 'bout "YOUR IN THE MONEY"?

Something like "So What?" from Cabaret...

I second all of these. Go for something huge, and make sure if you want to hit that high note at the end of "Privilege", you show them you can.
I'm responding because I have Urinetown auditions next month as well, but I want to go for Little Sally. I'm an alto/mezzo, normally a belter but I can hold that back when needed. LOL

re: Little Sally
For my college production, a popular song was "Wouldn't It Be Loverly?". I know its likely well over-done, but, for what it's worth, all the girls that sang it got called back for Little Sally.
I sang "It Sucks to be Me" when I auditioned for Little Sally
Got the part
Don't Rain On My Parade?
For Penny - if you wanna show off the high belting (in order of suggestion)...
The Stuff from "Reefer Madness"
Potiphar from "Joseph..."
A New Argentina from "Evita"
For Little Sally -
Lonely Pew from "Reefer Madness"
I Know Things Now from "Into the Woods"
Disneyland from "Smile"
I Ain't Down Yet from "The Unsinkable Molly Brown"
Shy from "Once Upon a Mattress"
Learn to pee on cue...
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Just be yourself!
And sing something that you are comfortable with...
