Cast list for the RENT 30th anniversary concert is out and it is a lot - Taye Diggs back, Neil Patrick Harris, Rachel Zegler, and a pile of others (BWW). They've also announced a behind-the-scenes pre-show livestream, which tells you how big they think this is.
Diggs returning is the headline for anyone who was around in '96, but I'm more curious about the newer names. Zegler as Mimi on paper is fine. NPH doing Mark thirty years on is either going to be the best thing in the room or a very expensive nostalgia bit, and I don't think there's a middle option.
These anniversary concerts have a bad habit of being a parade of famous people who haven't done the material in decades, and the people who still have the chops get buried in the ensemble. Does anybody think this one will land, or are we all just going to watch the livestream and complain?
