Audra McDonald...

This woman is amazing.

She has been in 6 Broadway shows
1. Carousel (Tony Award)
2. Master Class (Tony Award)
3. Ragtime (Tony Award)
4. Marie Christine (Tony Nomination)
5. Henry IV (no nom, but show won 2 Tonys)
6. A Rasin in the Sun (Tony Award)

And her 5th & 6th show were the same year

She is amazing, and up there with Angela Lansbury & Gwen Verdon with regards to most Tony Awards (as a female of course), and she is only 34!!! Listening to her now...

re: Audra McDonald...

I had the good fortune of watching Ragtime at the Lincoln Center archives yesterday. I had seen the show live but this is the first time I had the opportunity to watch Audra up close...and I was blown away...again. It truly was an inredible show and she is truly an incredible performer.

re: Audra McDonald...

Now people, don't we know by now that any thread with the words "Audra McDonald" will garner a comment from me. As an ardent and everlasting Audra fan, supporter, and overall shill, I feel comfortable and confident in saying that she is indeed the offspring of Superman and Wonder Woman. Seeing her live, both singing and acting, is an experience unlike any other. I just know that by age 40 she will have 6 Tonys. Mark it down, folks. Mark it down. I said it first. I have engaged in a personal campaign to aquaint everyone I know with Audra, so that they will then spread the joy of Audra to others.

Ah, now I must run to put on one of her CDs.

The biggest bonus of the Disney remake of ANNIE was the heartstopping moment when Audra suddenly sang "Tomorrow". Such an unexpected gift!

Love just love Audra McDonald! Had the joy of seeing her perform this past summer at the Williamstown Theater Festival.

re: Audra McDonald...

As I have mentioned in a previous post Audra McDonald is also the one who said "Winning a Tony means nothing outside of the theatre world."
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

*Swoons*
I.. there -- when she.. I.

Yum.

Audra is my hero.
There are just no words.
I'm actually listening to Marie Christine AS we speak.
Wow.

She should have 5 Tonys right now.
Heather - wow, gorgeous, great singer.
But I'd like to see Heather sing this one.
What a vocally demanding show.
I'm listening to "I Will Give" right now.
And I'm melting as we speak.
Audra is SO haunting, and beautiful, and SCARY!
GAH.

Anywho, I'm done ranting.
Spread the gospel of Audra.
Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

re: Audra McDonald...

Audra is truly THE talent of her generation in musical theatre. God blessed NYC with a woman with that talent.
congrats to her pilot being picked up...but is it selfish to hope that it doesn't last too long and that a LaChiuca or Brown or Guettel has a show on Broadway with her in mind soon?

re: Audra McDonald...

It's so easy to adore Audra McDonald. In the ten years since I first discovered her in CAROUSEL, I don't think I have ever seen her give a bad performance or sing a wrong note. She was brilliant in MASTER CLASS and RAGTIME, and I would say that her tour-de-force performance as Marie Christine is the best of her career (so far, that is). I absolutely loved MR. STERLING, and wished that it had lasted longer than 10 episodes. She has also proven herself an accomplished dramatic actress, taking on Lady Percy in HENRY IV and Ruth Younger in A RAISIN IN THE SUN. Her performance as Clara in PASSION is probably the best the role has ever been played. I really hope she stars in the Public's production of LaChiusa's SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE this coming season. We all know what kind of magic can be created when LaChiusa and McDonald team up! Okay, I need to stop gushing, but God, I love this woman!

re: Audra McDonald...

I love her. She has so much class and is one of the greatest actresses alive today...or even ever. She has proven that she is not only a flawless voice, but also one amazing actress
