Avenue Q moves again??

Work is as play hasn't been confirmed to the Novello yet (or something fell thru??) Sweet Charity could now head to the Novello and Avenue Q will transfer to its third home, The Wyndhams.

Its better than a dark theatre; but is Avenue Q really going to become the new decades "Fame" and "Grease" and refuse to leave if theres a theatre free!!

Sounds possible, although I really don't see why Hair didn't just go to the Novello.

Is Avenue Q really selling well enough to move again?

re: Avenue Q moves again??

Paul Spicer is coming in as the new Princeton/Rod (hmmm think ill avoid Ave Q for a while). At least Avenue Q is a great show, unlike Fame and Grease in my view anyway

Word I've heard is that Q is staying put, but Hair is going to the Novello. Given that Hair has to be a limited run due to the US cast (unless they recast locally after), this makes the most sense.

re: Avenue Q moves again??

Hair is already booking though for the Geeilgud, and I'm SURE they said in the original announcement, the OBC would feature for a limited time, before re-casting in London, which is how thy managed to justify bringing a whole cast over from America!

re: Avenue Q moves again??

They could easily change theatres though and just swap any tickets booked over.

Anyone know how Hair is selling? At those prices id be surprised if its set the box office on fire

exedore, the plan with the original Broadway revival cast (which for the record is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of with regards to equity exchanges) is that the Broadway revival cast will do the show for about six months or so, only then to be replaced by an entire British cast.

re: Avenue Q moves again??

Cameron supports the RSC London season by giving them a theatre, usually The Novello but not exclusively! This tends to be from mid-November till April of the following year.

Having said that, and excuse my ignorance, but are the RSC in London at the moment?

re: Avenue Q moves again??

Even if the Gielgud sold out it would be difficult for Hair to be financially successful in the short term. Its a very small theatre.

re: Avenue Q moves again??

If Hair is going to the Gielgud and Avenue Q rumoured to go to the Wyndham and Novello is going to do another RSC season. Where the hell is Next to Normal going?

I understand when Hair was first announced over here, Mama quoted that the cast have been given its closure notices.

re: Avenue Q moves again??

And Rock of Ages!!! Loll. Is next to normal going to come to London? Would it go to the National?

re: Avenue Q moves again??

The RSC thing makes me laugh, couple years ago they went to the New London, this year they are at the Duke of Yorks (Twelth Night is in town at the mo). I think its only if Cameron has an available theatre.

And when was NExt To Normal announced for a West End run? did I miss that one?

re: Avenue Q moves again??

I actually really like the idea of Paul Spicer as Princeton/Rod! But I'll miss Daniel a lot a lot!

re: Avenue Q moves again??

Who the hell said anything about 'Next To Normal' going to any of the above mentioned theatres?
#17

re: Avenue Q moves again??

Last I heard anything about Next To Normal in London was a thread that was talking about if the show would work there, let alone any talks of a transfer.

And, I am sure that there are some cast members of Hair who are thinking long and hard about going to London. Keep in mind, that if they go there and do the show there, they are screwed when they come home. I know that some of them are parents and have kids. It would make sense that some of them wouldn't want to go over there only to have job security. If they stay on Broadway, then there is a surefire chance that they would have a job. Not so when they are done with their gig in London. Yeah, it sounds cool on paper and in terms of ticket sales. But, it's not something that sounds good realistically.

re: Avenue Q moves again??

given it has been announced and advertised with the Broadway revival cast, I would assume they have signed contracts so they will be coming.

re: Avenue Q moves again??

Camerons deal with the RSC finished this year. It was a 5 year deal and to my knowledge it hasn't been renewed.

Avenue Q for some reason suddenly has an impressve advance!

re: Avenue Q moves again??

With all the extra new numbers that have been written for 'Avenue Q' they could open a complete brand new show! Some of them are better than the originals.
Its a shame that the show cant take a home like the small Arts Theatre (as it has in New York) and then have no threat of being shifted on every few months.

I agree Mama, Arts is a nice little theatre haha.

Ambassadors and Criterion would be great too.

re: Avenue Q moves again??

Can I also ask about new songs?
I didnt hear about this, I'm tempted to go back anyway now the cast her changed!

re: Avenue Q moves again??

OK, Im note sure if any of them are in the show at all as I haven't seen it this year but there are about 10 or so extra tracks that have been recorded.
