For a Sunday night show...
If you were recommending one of these shows to someone who hasn't seen either of them, which would you tell them to go see and why?
I have a free Sunday evening on my next work trip to NYC, and I believe both have a Sunday evening performance.
Note, I can always catch the other on my next (after this one) trip, so maybe I'll catch Bee now, as Q will likely be there for a longer while (speaking in years, of course. I'm sure by the next time I go to NY, they will still both be going strong, so it really doesn't matter which I see first - just can't decide).
Thoughts?
Muchas Gracias.

I'd go see Avenue Q first but then again I love it!
I you have 2 trips coming, it really depends how far away the other one is because I think Q will definitely stay longer but then again who am I to know?

Matter of months between the two (I go to NY about six times a year). I edited my post above to clarify...I'm sure both will be there this trip and next!
I'm leaning toward Spelling Bee, because the format looks so fun, but I know I *should* really see Q. Goodness knows I listen to the OCR of Q enough!
Decisions, decisions.

Spelling Bee. Q's humor revolves mainly around crudeness that wouldn't normally be funny were it not for the fact that it's puppets. Take the puppets out of Avenue Q and it would have closed before transferring to Broadway. Spelling Bee's humor is more innocent, but that doesn't make it any less funny than Q. (But don't get me wrong, Avenue Q is hilarious, but like you said, it will be around for a while).

Personally, I enjoy Q more, but I would suggest seeing Spelling Bee first because you can catch the original cast now. Next time you come back, the cast may have changed. Most of the Q cast (all the original ones) I believe are signed until next June.
i would have to say spelling bee, especially since as other people have been saying you would most likely see the original cast who are all fantastic. either way i'm sure you'll have a great time though.
I really, REALLY liked both shows. Both have VERY funny scripts. But I'd give Q the edge, because I liked the music more.

That is a very difficult question.
I love both. I am not talking like here.
Love. Both are must see shows.
How about extending your trip another day.
If I had to choose one show though, it will always be Q.
I have seen Q five times and except for Forbidden Broadway, nothing has topped my love for Q.
But Spelling Bee would be my next favorite.
See all three:
Q
Forbidden Broadway
Bee
Three shows with HEART and SOUL.

Hey, thanks everyone for your suggestions. Seeing they both sound like great shows, I guess I'll see what I can get a better seat for, see that one, and I'll catch the other on my next trip.
I go back and forth to NY a lot so it's just a matter of which I see this particular time around.
I'd have to say Spelling Bee....I've seen both multiple times but I still would go to see Spelling Bee again any night of the week.
Do these shows have a sunday night performance or isnt it just the 3pm matinee?

I personally prefer Spelling Bee - although I did like Q. It's more so what kind of 'airy' fun you want. They both offer humor, just in different forms.
You will laugh at both--but I think you will laugh harder and be more touched by Avenue Q. Some of Bee felt a little, oh, sterotypical/contrived to me (the overachiever with 2 daddies, the aisian overachiever, the child with a absentee mommy, the homeschooled child) and Dan Fogler's character is difficult to understand, depending on where you sit! (Breathing out of 1 nostril and all.)
I have seen Avenue Q twice and Bee once, and would definitely see Avenue Q again. Stephanie D. is an amazing talent.
i love forbidden bway, but i saw both, even though not many kids see avenue q, i say that spelling bee is better. i think it might be becuase this is the first show where adults play kids realistically and not like really hyper and over dramatic
Spelling Bee. Avenue Q is cute and funny but it doesnt go any farther than that. Yeah, its entertaining but it doesnt do much more than that. It does have a couple of messages, but Spelling bee is so much more than just a spelling b. You are pounded with both comedy and serious situations that make you think about how hard kids actually have it.
