"SEDUCES it's audience!" -New York Times
There ya go, marketing folks.
Im just watching some of the TV spots-they are really playing up the "girls night out" angle. The commercial is a big ole hen party. 40-something secretaries big night out. WOO HOOOOO!!!!!
The show will be closed in a month.
So, what are the odds I'll be looking for something else to take my mom to come Mother's Day?
How can it possibly close with pull quotes like these:
"a thrilling jukebox celebration!"
"admittedly remarkable!"
"A-plus!"

The Bergen Record (Robert Feldberg) is mixed to negative---but does state that the talent is much better than the show itself. (And, of course, loves Beth L)

I like his first line---the title doesn't earn an exclamation point.
Heartbroken for Beth. At least they love her even if the show sucks.
Guess I'll be seeing it asap for her sake. What a shame.

With these horrible reviews I have one question,
Why ins't it up on TDF for like every show?
Huffington Post is negative (1.5 stars):
"The Shirelles are a Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame act -- the biggest girl group of the rock era until the Supremes. Besides, you can imagine the pitch for Baby It's You: It's Jersey Boys but with girls! Plus there's a Jewish housewife who launched a record label and steered them to superstardom against all odds. Did we mention she left her husband for an interracial romance? Throw in a bunch of golden oldies along with their hits and you've got yourself a show. Except, unfortunately, you don't.
...
The dreadful book by Floyd Mutrux & Colin Escott (Mutrux also conceived the show and co-directed with Sheldon Epps) frames the show with a deejay spinning some tunes and setting the scene. So many pop cultural references are tossed in, it felt like one of those late night infomercials to pitch a TimeLife boxed set of CDs ("The Seventies were a crazy time of lava lamps and disco, with Happy Days on the television and.....")"

The Post gives it 2 stars (out of 4) and yet, without distortion, take the first sentence and the last sentence and you've got a great set of quotes for an ad:
"
Every night's a baby boomer's delight at the Broadhurst, where the new jukebox musical "Baby It's You!" rolls out one golden oldie after another.
That this show would have great old songs was a given; that it delivers a great new performer is an unexpected gift."
NY Daily News is negative:
""Baby It's You!" is the Lawrence Welk of jukebox musicals.
The show opened Wednesday night at the Broadhurst and boasts nearly three dozen hit songs. Among them, "I Met Him on a Sunday," "He's So Fine," "Dedicated to the One I Love" and "Walk on By."
The title of that last hit is my advice for this production, considering that the songs are so blandly performed they don't make an impression."

BettyBoy72,
What TV ad are you talking about?
Where did you see it? Is it using music from the cast album?
