BARE - Coming to Bway in 2010-11?

I doubt that you will see Lea on Broadway in anything less than a revival of FUNNY GIRL or a whole new show written for her, let alone a crappy role in a crappy show that died on the vine 5 years ago that isn't even COMING to Broadway.

You all realize the OP was merely wishin' and hopin' out load and that this is not any sort of announcement or even a rumor... right?

Call me a killjoy, but BARE seems to bring out the rabid inner fan-boy/fan-girl in some people...

"let alone a crappy role in a crappy show that died on the vine 5 years ago that isn't even COMING to Broadway."

What show was that?

I personally love this score but I really don't know how I would feel about Bare being on Broadway. It's such an intimate piece and I think it works better in a small house.

Quite a good score, but a crappy show.

And I still think it's way too controversial for Bway. They're not ready.

Pgenre, did you click on the link in the original post? it was also in the latest headling on the front page here. There is also a link to the company's site that wants to bring it to Broadway.

I don't think it is too controversial for Broadway. But I could see there being picketing possibly. JMO

Has the book and score undergone any revisions or changes?? It's a nice little show but deff not worthy of Broadway

I just saw it here in Denver and I didn't notice any changes. But it has bee 4 years since I first saw it. It was called bare: The Musical and not bare: A Pop Opera.

It's no more intimate than NEXT TO NORMAL or SPRING AWAKENING,
it depends on the design and use of space.
I'd put it in a church or the Belasco.

The casting of the Off-Broadway version was inspired, and matching Arden, Green, Hill and Joy Johnson is gonna be hard.

I found the casting off-Broadway lacking the raw energy of the original cast.

Arden played it well, but over sang it. Hill looked bored until the last 20 minutes, and looked too old. Johnson was funny, but not as brash or outright hilarious and touching as the role could be played.

Green was in top form, as always.

tourboi, I didn't see the original so I can't comment on that, but I thought the New York cast was so strong and magical, how can you oversing something called a PopOpera?
Hill was terrific when the run started, but if you saw it later in the run I agree he seemed to loose interest, again, not having seen the original, I thought Joy Johnson was brash, and extremely touching, and we totally agree on Green.
And the ensemble, including Sasha Allen, Matt Canon, Issac Capulto, Adam Fleming, Kerran Giovani, etc. amazing young talent.

I did see it later in the run.

Perhaps over sung was the wrong wording. But you could tell Arden was trained, and he sounded too "legit" or "musical theatre" to be singing most of that score. It was, to me, almost "too pretty."

Saw Bare and I'm completely at a loss as to why anyone would care. I thought it melodramatic, way too moral and a total bore. I didn't even think the score was very good. I think I was lost at the moment the company came onstage and huddled in a "prayer" moment before beginning the "show". Please.

Huddled in a prayer moment? That was probably added for the production you saw (where?) because it didn't happen in the original or NY productions that I remember.

Some theatre companies that have done it have added their own beginning and vignettes before "Epiphany" and I've yet to see one that either worked, or had a point.

It's one of the whiniest shows ever written, but I still love it. The show still needs some revisions, but I can see it working on broadway.

I think it's a pretty good show, and it has some beautiful music in it. It beats any new score currently coming to Broadway.

The show could def. work on Broadway. It's not like it's some intimate tiny little show. I mean, we've had one woman shows on Broadway, two-person monologue driven shows, and small scale musicals. It could work just fine. It just needs the right space, and I think the Belasco is an inspired choice. Though the foot traffic is kind of bad, I think it would work well for the piece. It has that church feel to it, but it still feels sort of dark and edgy.

"It beats any new score currently coming to Broadway."

Oh! You've heard every single score that is "coming to Broadway" for this season? Wow. That must be nice.

Enlighten me, BARE Fanatic.

Please - your're not even trying to be subjective anymore. You are bleeding your love for the show, out of each pore. At least try to see what we're saying; it's not right for Broadway and the score is actually not that strong.

I can't comment on other scores, as I haven't had the luxury of hearing every single piece of music from other Broadway-bound productions. But you have! LOL

I've always had a soft spot for Bare. Does it have the best score? No. But the music is quite good and the story is affecting--it may manipulate your emotions, but I really cannot listen to it without tearing up a little bit. So, I'd be happy to see it on Broadway (or even another Off-Broadway run).

Most of the Off-Broadway cast are into their thirties now and probably wouldn't be able to convincingly play teenagers. Let's hope that the producers tap some of the great, young talent that's been seen on Broadway the past few years for this production. I'd love to see Matt Doyle play Peter in a full-fledged production.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I know the show has a big cult following, but every time I listen to it, the score reminds me too much of Rent. As for the show being too intimate or controversial, I don't think it is any more so than any other intimate or controversial musical that has opened on Broadway, which are numerous. But with decent marketing, I do think the show has enough potential to justify a Broadway production, especially on the coattails of Rent, Spring Awakening and Next to Normal.

MusicSnob (a fitting name) - Why is it so hard to believe that he's heard the new scores coming to Broadway this season? Memphis has already opened, Minsky's and Catch Me If You Can (if either make it this season) have already had major productions, Pure Country has performed at Broadway in Bryant Park, and U2 has performed songs from Spider-Man in the past (and it's U2, so you probably know what it's gonna sound like). The only thing that hasn't been widely heard is The Addams Family.

He hasn't heard each damn score in its entire form. Besides - you did not mention each musical that will be arriving in the next year. Sorry.

And I really don't feel like going through each musical you failed to mention. It's not worth it.

I'm still hoping this comes to SF soon. As far as the score goes, I adore some songs and loathe the rest.
