Hey Guys! The Bare Facts thing was a lot of fun. Damon, Michael, Jenna, Natalie and Kristin were so funny. It was mostly an interview and then a few people asked some questions afterwards.
A couple of things that were mentioned:
- The beginning of the show has been reworked a bit. Damon and Kristin sounded very enthusiastic about it.
- Someone asked when the cast recording would be out and Damon said "soonish". He was reluctant to give a date because he knew it would be online as soon as he said it. Why would he think that? He also mentioned bonus stuff and extras. It sounds really cool.
- It has been firmly established that everyone in the free world is in love with Michael and wants to see him in his underwear. O_O
- Natalie had a cast on her hand because of a cyst removal.
- The panel discussed their high school experiences and how they could relate to all of the characters in the show.
In non Bare news, Damon is working on three projects (two with the awesome Stephen Trask) and Michael is doing a concert of Easter Rising at Joe's Pub on December 21st!! I'm sure that's going to be amazing!
FB, you had better get your ass down to New York City for that!
There's more stuff but I'll leave that to other people to talk about.
Thanks again to the wonderful cast and creators of Bare. They are all so friendly and warm and receptive to the fans. They're awesome! :)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, I have been waiting and waiting, not that it has really been all that long since you got back, but my life is just sad like that!!
Sounded like it was really interesting!! That is great news about the recording!
Did you ask any questions?
Thanks again, for the info you already posted, but you are killing me with this...

Post back and let me know how everyone is!
Love much!
Hi, all:
Figured I would throw in my few cents about the evening tonight at Ars Nova --- was taking notes for an article/potential doc project/scene, so I grabbed some choice quotes:
BTW --- I heart the Ars Nova space in a big way & was reminded of that tonight.
The evening started out with questions about the show's creation and how the cast related to their characters/their high school experiences. First nifty fact of the night: Damon wrote all the music before the lyrics. I found that intriguing, anyway. He hesitated to call the show autobiographical, though definitely saw elements of himself in it, as he imagined all storytellers do.
Each of the cast then shared little anecdotes about H.S. & their upbringing...each one also mentioned how they related quite often to Nadia the most when looking back at H.S. (Damon, espeially), which was nifty, and led to a great quote from Natalie: "We've all had those moments, 'I'm 30 pounds overweight', 'my nose is too big', 'I'm not black enough', the last point prompting a sheepish hand raise from Michael.
Jenna then touched some more on the fact that people equate her with Ivy offstage sometimes, a testament perhaps to how great she does the part, even though she is in reality (proven tonight, as well as from many I've spoken to) that she really is a doll in person.
Then came what, IMO, proved to be the most interesting part of the evening, where they talked about the differences between doing the show in LA and NY. From the long discussion that followed, one really got a sense of just how tremendous and personal the experience of the show has been for Damon and Kristin, as they talked about all the chaos of the early LA work, actually painting and cleaning the theatre it would run in, and how LA theatre is a bit more experimental and creative in nature, as it's not as tremendous a part of the economy as NY, making for more creativity potential amongst the groups of actors who work there. Jenna also mentioned how they were paid $12 a performance (!), illustrating the point that people who do theatre out there really do it b/c they love it. Some really terrific stuff.
Natalie then talked about her cyst & the surgery she had on it, and told a horribly funny anecdote about how she had Adam Fleming slam a huge prop Bible on it during the spring in an effort to make it go away...needless to say, all it did was cause tremendous pain and screaming, prompting another quotable quote from Michael: "That's all we do backstage at 'Bare'. Hit each other with books."
They then chatted a bit about some changes & the new opening number, which Damon said was quite 'cinematic' in nature, and he's quite excited about it...Natalie pointed out her roommate in the audience and delightfully embarrassed her by telling how she makes her play 'Role of a Lifetime' many times and sing along, b/c she adores Michael and his voice (it was a great moment)...drawing a bit of a blank for now, will look over notes for more, because I think there were a few other things of note...lots of interesting tech talk for people interested in how the music happens in the show, which I'll post about later.
All in all, a really terrific evening (and a nice, lighthearted follow up to the show I saw earlier that day, 'Guantanamo', which I'm putting another thread about soon...if you haven't seen it and are curious at all, GO! It's very draining, though).
Hope you enjoyed.

MoG and jtropia:
Thanks so much for the info. I'm so jealous. Damn school (and I don't even start until tomorrow.)
So in the 1.5 days I've been here, I've made most of my dorm listen to at least one song from bare. I'm winning converts left and right. Yay!!!
Joe, you were sitting right next to me. Well, next to being relative since there was a gap between us, but no people. I actually mentioned afterwards to MoG, Newcomer and friend, that the person sitting next to me was taking notes. You did a great job recounting events.
It was a really interesting evening, as I find the technical aspects of the show and actors as fascinating as the show itself (and thanks to Damon explaining that the show is done entirely to "click track", I finally understand what that even means). The thing that stood out to me was when they spoke about the differences in the actors and how they approach playing characters, how Natalie (who, btw, remains my girl crush to the nth degree) is totally spontaneous and non-technical, and Michael (who, btw, remains my boy crush to the nth degree) is a totally methodical, technical actor listening for the beats of the music, looking for his marks, etc. Jenna (who, btw, if she keeps being so nice may become my new girl crush) said she's somewhere in between both of them.
There was much praise from Kristen for all of the actors, well deserved, I might add.
The one detail I remember most about the discussion of the new opening number (someone had asked why they chose it to be in Latin) was Kristen revealing that this is where Peter would be in his underwear (um, not to get anyone excited or anything, but perhaps I misunderstood, I think I heard a reference to him doing something with Jason). I can't imagine why this would stick in my mind, above all else. :P
The double CD sounds fantastic and Damon seemed very proud of his little girl (that's what he calls the show) and all the hard work they put into it.
Afterwards, I finally introduced myself to Jenna because the more she talks about how stand offish people are to her because of Ivy, the worse I feel that she might take it personally when it has absolutely nothing to do with her. She may singlehandedly make me sympathetic to Ivy.
All in all, I really learned a lot tonight and thank everyone who participated and made the evening possible.
Thanks JTropia for all of the details! We saw you sitting across from us taking notes and were wondering what it was for! :)

This absolutely 100% cracked me up!!
Killer details guys, mucho props!
It's funny...as I quickly left the theatre to meet up w/friend for dinner, I briefly though to myself, 'These people must be wondering why ever this man is copiously taking notes,' lol.
As I alluded (and since it was brought up, I'll elaborate , I was making notes for a few things: an article I'm pitching to my campus paper, since I've no doubt there are numerous people here who'd love the show if they became acquainted with it, a documentary I'm making an outline for about dedicated contemporary theatre fans (from Rentheads to Barees and all those in between, so to sepak), and thirdly --- I'm working on a play about actors, and one of the scenes is a panel discussion...I wanted to see if I could get some ideas on some little realistic elements I can add to the scene (and I certainly did!)
The 'click track' discussion was quite insightful, as well as Damon touching on a few of the ways his life would be easier thanks to the new Dodger Space...had I the chance, I was going to ask them if there were any other major ways they were re-thinking aspects of the production, since they're in a much larger (and, I imagine, more technically advanced) space than ATA (which I love, in all its postage stamp size of a theatre glory).
And all those collaborations Damon was talking about with Stephen Trask...can we say delightful? People fearing for the future of musicals should get to know these two men and their work to get an idea of how terrifically fierce their collaborative work has the potential to be! Didn't know Scott had a hand in composition too...this might be one of the most multi-talented cast and creative teams in quite some time.

LOL! Well, it did cross our minds but in a totally good way of course. Good luck with the article and documentary! :)

I couldn't agree more. The thought of Damon and Stephen working together is mind boggling.
