>>The best I can say about Steve's show, to put it into context for you all, is that it touches the same part of my emotional makeup that Bare touches. Try as I might, I'll never quite put my finger on it, but will know that I'm somehow profoundly moved and changed for having seen it.
That might be the nicest thing anyone has ever said about our show. It was GREAT meeting Trisky and MOG last night. They are SO adorable. I'm sitting here at a Starbucks using their wireless and have very limited net capacity while in NY, so that's why you don't see me here much.
The show last night was so weird because I think nobody really knew what to expect. For act one, we could see a lot of people who are probably "festivaled out" sitting there looking at us with, "Okay, prove yourselves" looks on their faces. It was like, "We are not going to give you one inch until you make us love you."
You have NO idea how intimidating that is.
But as the show progressed, the audience got more and more involved, louder and louder, until by the second act, the place was ROCKING with laughter. And there is a BIG second act costume surprise. PLEASE don't give it away, you guys.
The best part, for me, was that we've put in a new song called "How Do You Fall Back In Love?" that totally stopped the show. I thought the applause in that tiny space would never end. So, we were GREATLY relieved that our NY debut for this show came off so well.
Our venue director said Big Voice got the best applause and audience response of any show in the NYMF so far. The ROAR that came at us at the end -- I guess that happens when you have a skeptical audience that gets won over; they really appreciate it when you give them something they like -- was almost terrifying because it was so loud!
Here's a little secret, though. We have some big producers coming to the Wednesday matinee at 1pm and because we're coming in here without publicity (no mention in Playbill, no reviewers in the audience last night, the worst venue in the Festival, etc.) NYMF said they'd offer a few discounted tickets to that show. So, if you are available, remember this venue only holds about 50 people, so call them immediately and see if you can grab the discounts now. There won't be many, though, so do it fast.
And yes, MOG, I love BARE. I always will. Damon is one of my "adopted sons" and I keep hearing others slam it because it ain't what they think a Broadway musical should be but you know what? They said the same thing about RENT. So F*** 'em. Heh.
Come and see me and my husband on stage. If you don't think he's the funniest guy on two legs, then you don't have a sense of humor.
(Yes, this is long but I don't have much time).
