Exactly. That was my point. It isn't the video itself, but the ability to download it.
Usually digital versions that come with a Blu-Ray/DVD are download codes, not streaming. And, either way, the expiration, AFAIK, is related to the ability to register for a download. So, maybe give everyone 18 months from the release date to register for a streaming/download version. At that point, you're fine and can keep streaming/downloading/etc., but if you happened to buy a DVD after that 18 months, that is no longer a valid code.
I know because my brother never used his codes, so I took all his Disney codes home with me one year, and they were all expired at that point.

Will it stream on the PBS site like the other Great Performance specials?

I just watched the Broadway bootleg and I'm wondering why the royal ballet audition scene are so vastly different between the Broadway and west end productions? Also is the safety curtain the real safety curtain for the Victoria palace theatre?

I was just clarifying that anyone who registers before that date can also keep streaming and downloading it indefinitely AFAIK. Like I have downloads on iTunes that no longer exist for purchase, but I can still get them from the cloud since I bought them when they were available.

just watched the broadcast on TIVO
Liked this production quite a lot.
I still think this musical does not have the best music out there by a long shot
the dancing scene with younger and older billy was fantastic
the encore with many billys through the years was great, too.....
Im always in favor of getting a professional capture of any major musicals, so a big thanks to the company for filming and distributing this
for those of you that can afford, please buy a copy from amazon. Im going to. commerce is the only way people will keep making these for us.....
now if we can get a pro shot of
Fun Home
Gentlemens guide
Our Town before the cast forgets their lines
Kinky Boots
book of Mormon

Ok, that makes sense. I see the code expiration date for billy Elliot live is May 2, 2016.
One more question. You say you can still get your movies from the cloud. I understand that once you have it in your own personal cloud that it can't be erased by some outside entity. What about Amazon cloud? I like to keep all my digital movies in that one location. Do you think BEL will be there permanently in this case?
The more I think about it the more I think you are right that once I have it, I keep it.
Either way, I am probably willing to risk it/ experiment with it. Thanks

Bought a digital copy last weekend. Loved it! It was the most enjoyable thing I've watched in a long time. Saw the Broadway production, but thought this production was so much better. I enjoyed the Broadway production when I saw it, but enjoyed watching this even more. Maybe it was the close-ups, but it moved me so much more - I was actually in tears a few times. So happy to be able to add it to my library! Highly recommend! A+

Me too. I liked it on Broadway but I didn't LOVE it. The day I went, half the cast was out and it was not one of those great understudy surprise days. And though I save them all, I lost the playbill so I don't even remember who I saw in any of the parts (although i do remember Ava DeMary in the cast as the youngest ballet girl and you couldn't take your eyes off her).
This version - I can't stop watching it.

Matilda won't run long enough for that to happen. Plus only ONE former Billy (the original, first to perform it on stage) played older Billy, and for ONE special performance. As far as I know no former Billy has returned to the show in another role.
