BLONDE and MUSIK to perform at Tonys?

Someone over at ATC says that people in the cast told her that they were invited to perform.

Interesting, and I hope it's true = though people on ATC aren't crazy about the idea.

I would love to see every musical, including revivals, perform at the Tonys every year. And to make room for that, they could get rid of all those silly "awards."

I'm thinking LoveMusik could do a combination of It Was Never You and Surabaya Johnny, and they also may choose a bit of one of those Bertolt Brecht and Brecht's Women songs (Tango Ballad/Youkali/God Bless Rockefeller).

And Legally Blonde has a couple of options. Bend and Snap, Omigod You Guys, Legally Blonde (REMIX) and So Much Better. Of course, they could opt for a melody, and none of the above songs feature nominee Borle, so they could also use Chip on her Shoulder or Take It Like A Man.

And not that I wouldn't want those two musicals to perform, but if all nominees for musical and revival perform, and add two on top of ALL those, the Tonys would be over at...3 AM?

I found it really funny how he and Aretha did Somewhere as a tribute to Sondheim, where it technically isn't a Sondheim song. The lyrics are, but what about the music?

i think it'd be fun to see Blonde perform considering it's the only show my friend saw this year. he'll be happy if they opt to do it.

personally, i'm not a fan of the show itself but it'd be nice to see a performance of it telecast so that way it can be preserved. ditto with LoveMusik.

Two years ago - they included clips of musicals ( Brooklyn, Little Women, Dracula, Sweet Charity, Pacific Overtures, La Cage & that Elvis musical I cannot remember) and live performances of Tony Nominated New Musical ( Light in the Piazza, Dirty Rotten,Spamalot & Putnam ) in the opening number with Bernadette Peters singing,
Another Openin' Another Show but those live performances were like 5 seconds each only..(but they used to do something like this before when they have the TONY Pre-show on PBS ) I wish they give a special time for the New Play nominated (like they did before) instead of these two musicals (nothing against them) but I would kill to see Julie White again doing her Diana character in LDL , Langella in F/N , Radio Golf & COU- but probbaly not bec. two plays were already closed-J*

As far as LM & LB go, if its true and i hope it is. I'd like to see either: "Syrabua Johnny" & "It Never Was You" or "September Song." For LB - "Ohmigod you guys" or "Legally Blonde Remix." I don't think "Bend and Snap" would work all that great out of context on a Tony Telecast.

No. They're not going to install the rigging and flying equipment needed to have Gavin walk across the proscenium. Plus, at Radio City, it would take 10 minutes.

I would think they would let The Apple Tree perform before they let Legally Blonde and LoveMusik.

I didn't post one. I don't like posting reviews on a show way after it's opened.

I thought the show was okay. Not as dark as it should have been. They claimed to not sugar coat it, but it was entirely sugar coated. They made the bird lady sound like Mrs. Potts and took the dark mystery and gritty reality of London and made it like Disneyland. Without the juxtaposition of Mary's magic against the backdrop of the harsh reality of London, the story is less magical - that's why the film succeeded so brilliantly.

The dancing statues and other lame elements totally made me want to wring the creative team's necks. What a stupid idea. It couldn't be taken seriously.

The choreography never grows to more than just pedestrian, especially during "Super..." and "Step in Time." They relied on cheap "flying" gimmicks to mask the adequate nature of the choreography.

Gavin Lee was quite winning (though nothing revelatory) and Ashley Brown was - though one-note, just as winning. You can't blame the girl for not being totally brilliant - her material is confining and she has absolutely impossible shoes to fill.

I thought Rebecca Luker and Daniel Jenkins were the true stars of the show, besides the set.

It was't a travesty - it was quite enjoyable - but it's nothing great, and probably doesn't deserve the Best Musical nomination that it got.

And don't even get me started on the awful "Anything Can Happen" finale.
