BOM Cancellation

My friend is going to NYC right after I am. (June 25th-July 1) He is planning to see Sister Act, Mamma Mia!, WICKED, Book of Mormon, etc...however, does not/never buys his tickets in advance - never. I have tried to explain to him that tickets aren't available for BOM. AT ALL. I even went on Telecharge to show him. However, he argues that they will just do cancellation line. I tried to explain to him that those prices are outrageous and there is no guarantee that there will be tickets left. He said 'you don't KNOW how many people cancel.'
His father is a music producer (he went backstage for WICKED...has met Cheno twice. He has pictures of himself inside the bubble.) I almost questioned him, since the general public typically doesn't go backstage to shows like WICKED...

Do you agree with me or my friend? I would hate for him to miss BOM.

There are often cancelations. That's why there is a cancelation line. They are not outrageous prices, but they are full price. (Although I do not know how they resell premiums should those be the cancelled tix.)

Of course, there is no guarantee -- and it's a lot of standing in line.

There are almost always cancelation tickets, from what I've seen in my many times doing lotto and standing room. The standing room line is more guaranteed, if he can stand standing during the show (and wants to bring a chair to sit outside for 4 - 5 hours).

Last May, right after all the nominations, my family managed to get 4 cancellation tickets for Book of Mormon for the same show. And people in front of them and behind them in line also got tickets. It's not guaranteed, but a great way to see the show for a non-premium price.

I've tried the lotto three times, and the folks running it always explain other options like SRO and cancellations. They always say the full range of full prices for cancellations, including the premium prices.

I've lost lotto about 40 times. At least the lottery guys are entertaining!

The cancellation line tickets are usually $155-$475.

Whether onot you get a cancellation ticket depends on how many people are in the cancellation line. I waited an hour and got the last one. They are the top REGULAR price. Cancellation tickets are unused house seats, tickets returned by patrons and unsold premium seats (those are released last, at regular price).

BTW, you can't be in the cancellation line AND win lotto (but you can be in the SRO line and win lotto).

But you can attempt the lotto and then rush over to the cancellation line though, right?

Is there a rush to those lines after lotto? And where are these lines located?

My mom doesn't understand the concept of buying tickets in advanced either -.- Our trips in July and she JUST expressed how much she would LOVE to see BOM. GEEZE

The cancellation line is inside. Standing room is outside. And yes, you can run over after. Lots of people do. My advice would be to enter lotto and wait for your name FROM standing room. If it's short enough, you should be able to hear the lottery guy. (But send a friend over to listen if you can.)

Good advice! There will be two of us so I may just get into the cancellation line since she can listen for our name. She is too high maintenance and huffy to stand. The things we go through for our moms! How has the rush been lately?

Not as terrible as it has been, but things may vary as people try to see Andrew and Josh before they leave. https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.php?thread=1045193&dt=1&boardid=1

Jolly -- you can't be in the cancellation line and try for lottery seats. You can be in the SRO line and try for lottery.

You can JOIN the cancellation line AFTER you loose the lottery however.
