"Even you said "teaching people about safe sex is a far better option than trying to shut it off." Obviously, a show like Broadway Bares isn't doing much to promote safe sex either."
Ah, but you're totally wrong there, rentaholic. Broadway Bares offers all kinds of education, and free condoms.
Broadway Bares is Life and Sex positive, with an emphasis at keeping people with active sex lives HIV negative. I do appreciate the irony, bu it's not that much of a dichotomy.

Touche, ghostlight. I'm basing my impression just off of clips from the internet, so I shouldn't make assumptions. sorry, everyone, for my major threadjack...commence the discussion about who you want to see bared...
Well, Broadway Bares is all about abstinence in my book. Look but don't touch cause none of those guys is gonna sleep with me!
Damned shame about Michael York and Ted Neeley though...
thank you, rentaholic, for being on he same page. NEITHER of us said people should stop having sex for good. Absintence simply means bring responsible and WAITING for the right person and the right time.

"Grey Gardens" star Matt Cavanaugh (have you seen those AB's - OMG) Just look at this pic of him.
Oh yeah - More Josh Strickland would be nice. And from "LB" Matthew Risch, Andy Karl & Orfeh.
And what if Lisa Rinna & Harry Hamilin show up? They're both still ridiculously hot and will be in "Chicago" soon!
Question: How come the very hot Denis Jones (who takes over for Jerry Mitchell this year) never gets into the Act? ~Smiles~

I just found out I'm going! It will be my first Broadway Bares (and probably not my last). Can't wait!

(Anyone getting a Dr. Emma Brookner/Ned Weeks feel here? The whole abstinence bit?)
Dennis "took it off" for many years before he took over the helm.
But a peek wouldn't be bad.
I think most of LEGALLY BLONDE will be performing, maybe even the pups.
I'm gonna ask for some Hadley Fraser too.
It's so funny that Tyler Haynes seems to show up in every show I see.... from "Oklahoma" to "Hairspray".
He's a hottie allright.
Damn - and I missed that? Denis Jones is so hot and I hope I run into him there! I'm going to the 9:30 show.

Has anyone else ever found it ironic that Broadway Bares raises money to fight AIDS, a sexually-transmitted disease, by strongly promoting sex?
Please keep your opinion to yourself. You just make yourself sound idiotic and ignorant.
Abstinence is a responsible mature choice...
EverythingIsRENT...you probably masturbate a lot, then!!! I support you and your abstinence....just don't shake my hand!

Everythingisrent and Rentaholic, I just want to say that while I disagree with you I'm glad you expressed your opinion.
I believe that eroticism is a wonderful thing and sex in all its varying forms can be a wonderful thing. I'm in a commited, monogomous relationship now but I certainly experimented and I'm truly glad I did.
I was raised in a strict religious environment that didn't prepare me at all for the real world. It was "abstinence only" education before it was called that.
Abstinence is a valid choice but it is foolhardy to try to make others abstain. "Abstinence Only" education hasn't worked for high school students and it certainly won't work for gay men. Broadway Bares is a wonderful, fun event that does educate, entertain and celebrate. I'm glad it's there.
I'm still bothered by the fact that we're talking about "abstinence" as a prevention from AIDS. Tell that to the drug-users, recipients of blood-transfusions, and HIV+ babies who all managed to get it other ways. It's not about sex or no sex...it's about personal responsibility and making the correct choices. Abstinence is no more "commendable" than sexual freedom -- but both can be equally safe.
What is this, 1986??
Just curious, because I don't really know what exactly goes on at Broadway Bares (and I've been to the website) is it an all-out strip show (that is, with full nudity) or just actors in fun, skimpy outfits?

I agree with you completely Mother's Younger Brother. Sex does not cause AIDS.

Well I respect your opinions, danielm, and thank you for allowing me to express mine...unlike antonijan who doesn't seem to have reached that level of maturity yet.
That's pretty much correct. But they do production numbers while they strip (sorta like what Gypsy Rose Lee did - not competely naked.) And it is for charity. Proceeds go to BCEFA (Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS). Here's a video link hosted by Marissa Jaret Winokur from last years event..... enjoy!

broadway bares is a burlesque type show with amazingly talented performers performing (first and foremost). often times the numbers contain stripping and other time numbers are costumed in skimpy outfits. there can be no full frontal nudity at bares. last year, i was in a number that stripped completely to full nudity, but the junk had to be covered.
for all of you accusing broadway cares of promoting sex to raise money to fight hiv/aids...you're missing the point. bares is a night of FUN....it's not the black party with people having sex on stage. it was created because jerry mitchell was dancing nearly naked in will rogers follies and thought that he could raise money by getting people together to dance on a bar at splash here in nyc. he was right. look at it now. it's an evening to see beautiful bodies wearing nearly nothing to raise money for one of the most amazing organizations.
if you have a problem with it....there's a simple solution....stay home. free up a ticket for the hordes of people wanting to get in to the sold out show EVERY year.
I'n not tying to "make" anyone abstain, I just think kids should know its an option, instead of just throwing condoms at kindergarteners and saying "have fun, guys!"
They could do something with thr glindas, Kate Reinders, Laura Bell Bundy, and Kristin Chenoweth. Even though we've already seen Lea Michelle, In the show its not a great view so she's an option

I am here to tell you--THERE ARE NO KINDERGARTENERS AT BROADWAY BARES. And I have never, ever heard of people waving condoms at Kindergarteners. In most of the United States now, it's not a matter of young people not knowing there's an option of safe sex or abstension--in most cases there is no option to information other than abstension. Schools do not teach safe sex, they ONLY teach abstension. And it doesn't work because young people will still have sex--but they won't have the information on how to protect themselves OR they'll have wrong information that condoms and other safe sex practices don't work.
Next time instead of seeing Rent--go see Spring Awakening to see what the value of sex education can be.
"Laura Bell Bundy! Take it Off!"
I second that :)
