RE: The irony of stripping to raise money for Broadway Cares
Jerry has said that they decided to do a strip show as a way to reclaim the male dancer's body after AIDS had ravaged the community in the 80s. Partnering literally disappeared from musical theatre (and other) choreography, because of all the AIDS-phobias and untruths propagated in the 1980s and perpetuated by the powers that be. But stripping is a celebration of the body. And so Jerry and friends, in their own way, forced the male dancing body back into view saying, "It's okay if you're sick. It's okay if your healthy. Own your body and don't let anyone make you feel ashamed." And then he kept it going to raise millions upon millions of dollars that go to AIDS research, women's health initiatives, and people who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford medical care--men, women, and children--all around the country.
So even though I was totally indifferent to Legally Blonde, Jerry Mitchell is one of the heroes of musical theatre.
there can be no full frontal nudity at bares
However, in the Broadway.com video that someone posted there were performers talking about being totally naked...?

Sometimes they are totally naked, caitlinette, but genitalia is (are?) supposed to be covered at all times (sometimes this edict slips at the midnight show, one of the reasons that it is most popular with veteran viewers).
Women's nipples are supposed to be covered by pasties, which often vanish at the midnight show, though I've never seen a woman without at least a g-string on. The men, on the other hand, often strip down to the full monty, but have a prop on hand (a bucket, a shield, a hat, and in one case, whipped cream) to cover the most essential bits from view. Sometimes it's as simple as the dancer turning his back on the audience at the stategic moment as he whips off his last bit of clothing.
But this?:
"there can be no full frontal nudity at bares" is simply not entirely true. There's not supposed to be full frontal....but it does happen.

How strict are they about the 21+ age requirement? I'll be about a week shy of 21 but would love to go. Any insight would be amazing; I've heard both sides.
"They could do something with thr glindas, Kate Reinders, Laura Bell Bundy, and Kristin Chenoweth. Even though we've already seen Lea Michelle, In the show its not a great view so she's an option"
Lea Michele is underage.
Isn't Lea Michele like, 22? and it doesn't really matter, we see her ta-tas every night at Spring Awakening.
I would love to go to this...I'll just drool over the broadway.com video...
some Matt Cavenaugh (Grey Gardens) PLEASE!!!!!
and some John Glover & Joanne Worley (Drowsy Chap) would be fun.
She's younger than me?!
Man I remember a time when everyone was older than me....
"Has anyone else ever found it ironic that Broadway Bares raises money to fight AIDS, a sexually-transmitted disease, by strongly promoting sex? "
I have ALWAYS said that. I agree.

Shouldn't be too hard--he already stripped when he was on One Life to Live two years back
As for the sex/AIDS issue--so AIDS fundraisers should all be sex free?:S

I did. I was just kidding.
I am more excited about Bryan West and Ven Daniel (poter hunk) stripping. YOWZA, Steven Wenslawski too. Yummy.
Two words. HADLEY FRASER.
Can't see him doing it though, but it would make me very happy.
In fact all of the Pirate Queen men should come out with their giant "oars" and nothing else. Take that however way you want.

In my experience, I've never seen anyone get carded at the door. You're supposed to be 21, but unless you really look underage or you show up with a group of giggly college student friends, they probably won't stop you. If you're under 18, I wouldn't even bother trying, though. It's really meant to be a show for adults (21+). If you're bound to see the show and you're worried about the age restriction you could always get it on DVD.

So much respect and applause for Jerry Mitchell after reading this!!
EponineThenardier: I think I might die happy if that was a sight I've seen.
le sigh...originally in Chicago most of the pirates were very almost naked...I was horrified to see so many of them with all that clothing on them in NYC.
