I think that costume is fascinating. Colorful, dazzling, glamorous, artistic, and creative.
>> Who cares about "plot holes"
Hello. *I* do. I dont care how fantastic a story might be as long as it has some kind of internal logic. BROOKLYN had none.
Personally, I think the costumes were amazing, but not Tony-worthy. Of course, I think that about a lot of Tony nominations, so that probably doesnt matter too much.
costumes were INCREDIBLE! eden and ramona have great voices..the show itself was super bland...the plot was weak...so it didnt carry too well.
"When I saw BKLYN I loved it.
I thought it was amazing, then again, I was 12."
That about sums it up folks. Not to say that everyone who liked Brooklyn was 12, but a large part of the shows appeal catered to the average age of the American Idol viewer. (That probably goes up drastically on this board)
This aside, I found the entire design of the show to be nauseating. There was too much going on from set, costumes, and lighting to focus anywhere. I could almost hear the voices of the production team saying 'Quick do something cool before they start paying attention to the story.' In the end they were trying to be way too cool and IMO exploiting the talents of their amazing cast. One of the least enjoyable things I've seen on Broadway.

Um, it plain sucked. I saw the tour last summer and was incredibly disappointed. The show has some decent melodies, but with lyrics like "....someone had composed..." I just can't take it seriously. I feel like the lyricst had the vocabulary of an eight year old. And to quote the girl behind me, who I agree with 100%, "this sucks..." It was just a pointless story that tried WAY too hard to be edgy and hip and appeal to a younger crowd. You don't need to have every song be big and belty because by the end it just gets old. I'm glad it's gone. No discredit to the cast, yes they could sing, but it was a horrible show. I don't get the idea that the show is "amazing" just because the cast can belt their t*ts off.
The fondest memory I have of BKLYN is all the phony BWW "members" who joined just to say how awesome the show was and how you had to run and get tickets.
And...surprisingly,,,they're all gone.
I could almost hear the voices of the production team saying 'Quick do something cool before they start paying attention to the story.'
sidjones09, may I present you with the Broadway Abridged version of BROOKLYN: THE MUSICAL.
Absolute brilliance.
Broadway Abridged: BROOKLYN: THE MUSICAL
For a show with characters I didn't care about and a mostly "meh" score (except for a few great tunes), I have to hand it to BKLYN for always giving me something onstage to be interested in. I'm with those who say the costumes were terrific (certainly worthy of a Tony nomination, though maybe not a win). Equally as interesting to watch was all of that garbage--both sets and costumes--constantly moving and re-inventing itself throughout the show to set up each new scene. Shallow and corny as the show was overall, at least I left the theater in awe of the visuals.
That said...I do laugh when I look at the photo Foster posted. Though I'm more likely to see it and remember the brilliance of the costumes, I can definitely picture it in the dictionary under the word "flop".
Thanks Foster. I laughed from start to finish.
Sadly enough, it's absolutely true.

I actually loved the set. I thought it was neat how instead of having everything on tracks moving themselves, the cast did all of the set changes. Pretty creative.
I know the show DEFINITELY had its flaws, but there are worse things out there. I think I was just blown away by the performances. If it had been a different cast, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.
I saw Brooklyn, unwillingly, as an extra show to fill some free time when I took a trip to NY. I went with two of my best friends and we had no expectations other than it had some hype as most anticipated new show. We went in and were floored by the simple story and awesome belting. Each of us had tears in our eyes at different parts of the show because of the amount of emotion and energy given by the performers.
It was poorly written material, it didn't deserve any nominations because it didn't provide any material for anyone in the cast to showcase, especially in the acting department.

Plays mean different things to different people. I had Brooklyn in the Blood long before “Brooklyn – The Musical”. 8 show live, 2 in Hartford and 6 in Dallas only confirmed this fact (I saw the Broadway performance on the website to be nameless). Sure the book isn’t the best (the Vietnam scene brought back abysmal memories) and the costumes may not be Broadway worthy, but you can say that the costumes were at least original. You can also say that the songs were a little over the top but both leads, Eden and Diana, got to showcase their amazing voices. There is no need to squabble about who was better. In my opinion it’s too close to call.
What didn’t do the Brooklyn tour justice was that the venues were too large. Broadway theaters were much smaller but off-Broadway would probable of been the best place for Brooklyn.
“Brooklyn – The Musical” may be an acquired taste but so is the borough of Brooklyn.

Wow. How long ya been waiting to use that one?
I don't get how the show could make someone cry, except for maybe some accidental laughing.
I didn't think it was a good production. It was so loud. I couldn't enjoy myself. I wanted to leave at intermission, but being there was no intermission and I was center section and didn't want to disturb, I stayed. Any show where I could care less about anyone on the staged equals a bad show in my books.

Brooklyn wasn't even good enough to be craptastic.
It had no internal logic, the attempts at satire were disastrous, the lyrics were banal, the story reminded me of shows my friends and I put on on my porch when we were six, and the music was like a bad night on American Idol. And that was just how I felt about the musical prior to the line, "With our tears, we can water roses." At that point I vomited on my shoes and had to leave.
As far as the costumes go, every fashion design school has it's freshmen make dresses out of garbage bags and stuff considered trash. Some schools have them create ball gowns from green and brown garbage bags. It is really nothing that new.

Not Long, RentBoy, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing.
Again, I’m not saying BKLYN was the best show but it’s definitely not the worse. I’ve met people who walked out on “Wicked” and “Cats”. No argument here, just personal preference. A good show with bad performances, in my opinion, is worse than a bad show with good performances. Maybe the show did not sell out in Hartford and Dallas, where I saw it, but the audiences, who did see the show, seemed to enjoy it; especially the performances of the tour company.

I am intensly jealous of Eden Espinosa.
The fact, she's dating Aaron Lohr=/
But, I have heard her sing, Once Upon A Time.
I liked the song, but getting to the higher notes, she kinda screamed =/

did the show have rush?
Why shouldn't creativity be rewarded?
When it's up against something that is considered more creative and there are only a select number of slots that can be filled, what some consider creativity must be left out.

BROOKLYN was successful in only one way. It certainly made me believe that those songs and that story had been written by homeless people.
i found the tour cast to be better than the broadway cast.
love the show. it was fun.
no heavy plot but it was good.
out of the few shows ive seen, its one of my favorites. but i think its because i went in expecting it to be terrible and was surprised.
