Jesus Murphy - and I don't mean Donna.
Perhaps the best titles since "The Lady Eve" (which are the greatest titles for a golden age film).
Clearly, these guys get it in spades.
Damn!!!!!!!!!!

The credits look really atmospheric and fantastic, and I LOVE "Ballad" in the "overture" style! Thanks BWW, I am looking forward the BroadwayBeat Special part 2 and 3.

brianidol... the blood does not look like that in the rest of the film... in the opening sequence the blood looked computer animated. like a video game almost. but that was because the whole intro sequence was computer animated to be very over the top. in the film the blood just looks very colorful and cartoonish, but not animated or computer generated at all.... if that makes sense.
you'll love it. i thought the same thing when i saw the film. i thought the intro was incredible but was hoping the blood wouldnt look computer animated the whole time... and it didnt... it just looked like incredibly bright red dye or something crazy... but it was great.

Posted: 12/12/07 at 9:00amI'm so proud of myself for having the willpower (so far) not to watch it. I really don't want the experience to be spoiled by seeing so many clips online. Although I don't have the self control not to read the boards about it...

The actual song was cut.

Posted: 12/12/07 at 2:05pmAnyone know if this is going to play at The Ziegfeld on 12/21? I usually go to the local multiplex, but it might be worth spending the extra $s to go into the city to see it on a bigger screen.

Posted: 12/12/07 at 10:01pmThe opening is cool, but honestly, they could have shown nothing and I would have been floored. Those orchestrations!

The Ziegfeld not only has a large screen they also tend to have the volume of the soundtrack set at the intended levels. (Yet I pray they won't spoil the film by having the score playing in the lobby as the audience arrives.) I remember HAIRSPRAY being shown in many theatres at an unacceptable level.

Posted: 12/12/07 at 10:31pmI just think that it's awesome that there ARE opening credits, as they seem to be such a rarity for "big films" these days. I let myself only watch until the title, I still want to be surprised on 12-21.

Posted: 12/13/07 at 5:38amLike I said, I really like the orchestrations (very Danny Elfmanesque) though I still think they could've sung "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" as a voice-over.

YAY, it was amazing! I loved it.
I will say though, I missed the big whistle! I was listening to it and it was building up like there was going to be the whistle. . .and then it went silent and I was like, UGH! I want the whistle!!!!
But other than that I thought it was great! I loved when the blood worked up through the gears. . .that was swell.
I'm going to an advanced screening on the 18th! I'm excited! Can't wait! Love it! Ahh!
My friend just posed this great question. . .Don't you think Angela should have made a cameo? Does she? I haven't heard anyone say anything about it, and I don't think she does, but I just think that would be great.

It would be so funny to suddenly catch a cameo-glimpse of Lansbury as Mrs. Mooney chasing pussies in the streets.
