Didn't look like anyone was lip-synching to me. I think some of the editing was off. Some of the shots used to "cover" didn't quite match, so audio and video weren't in synch. This sometimes happens in a quick edit (I only really noticed this with "Millie").
Also, didn't think Idina was screaming. With the edit, you were pretty much getting the big ending of the song. It was a highlight for me.
Thought the "Taboo" number was much better on the broadcast. Didn't really land the day of the event. Benefitted from the intimacy of TV.
I like this message board much better than some of the other (nastier) ones. Can we be nice to each other, perhaps?
I was seething when I saw how much they cut from the broadcast, particularly the fact that they cut practically ALL of Rebecca's fabulous rendition of Unusual Way. Eh, at least Hugh Panaro, Avenue Q, and Wicked got a good chunk of time. It sort of makes me glad that I did go, even if I didn't get to stay up close.
It WAS pretty amazing how much of the numbers were sliced to bits.
I wonder if this bite-sized Broadway should have even been broadcast. It didn't do any of the shows any favors.

Wow..."THE WIZARD AND I" from WICKED was cut waaaaaay short. To almost nothing. How cute was Idina at the end when she kinda did this little hop, jump, blow kisses thing?
I was really disappointed in Melaine Griffith as well. She could barely keep up with a simple step step step thing at the end with all the other cast members. Oy.
Yeah, Kerry didn't trun my crank that much. I mean, it was ok, but not fabulous. Hunter, I think, makes a perfect Seymour.
The new replacement for Marisa in HAIRSPRAY is so cute and what a great little voice.
Avenue Q looks absolutely riotous. I'd like to see it.
They cut away totally from Jon Secada. I wasn't really that disappointed.
Overall, I really enjoyed the broadcast since it was the closest I was going to get to the event at all.
Kerry was hideous. Sorry, but she was really, really off key. Perhaps it was the editing that made it appear people were lipsynching. I particularly noticed it when Sutton closed her mouth earlier than her voice stopped.
Nobody was lipsynching. I noticed it looked that way last year also. You could tell by the way sutton was holding her mouth, haha. She made a lo of notes sound funyn and it completely matched up with the way she was moving her lips, even though the timing was slightly off, if that makes sense. It was the editing, as said before.
On another note, I didn't think Kerry was hideous, but she took the back seat to Hunter, who was just wonderful.
Al Dente-
NO ONE LYPSYINCED! I was there live and can assure you everyone sang live. You really dont have a clue. Get the facts before you post :)
Benzy, I have a clue and whether it was a broadcasting glitch, or what have you, it LOOKED OFF! And furthermore, some people SHOULD have been lip synching. Grow up. No one cares either way, it was just an observation. Again, if you some of you weren't so "lost" in misguided, "passion", you'd be able to state your points without so much angst. Regardless of whether or not there was/wasn't any lip synching going on, last nights semi telecast did NOTHING to sell tickets to anything EXCEPT for MAYBE, Taboo. Updated On: 9/10/03 at 04:53 PM

Yeah, "misguided, youthful passion" really sucks.
Just wait 'till you lose it completely and become jaded and dead inside, like some of us...
I'm so mortally wounded by you NBC, really, I may never post again. Boo hoo, sniffle, sniffle.
I don't think NBC was trying to insult, simply just point out some flaws with you. Kind of like how there are flaws with Little Shop of Horrors. NBC was merely stating his(or her..) opinion. This was not meant to personally bash you, just point out some flaws. Of course, the only miracle that could happen here is you be re-cast and replaced by Alice Ripley...

It's certainly good you aren't responding to NBC as an "needy, Attention starved asshole" like I would :)

No, no, no.. Alice can't playy a character THAT bitter, jaded, and cynical.
OOPS, sorry Broadwayguy, I would make an awful casting director, wouldn't I?

How about Kerry Butler since she is Al's favorite actress.
::ducks to avoid Al's fist::
Now there's a good idea broadwayguy!
Al Dente obviously has something against Kerry Butler beyond her performance.
You and I made peace long ago, so no offense taken. But let me clarify, if I may, It's NOT Kerry Butler the actress, I "dislike", it's Kerry Butler's portrayal of Audrey that I've had less than glowing reviews for. Updated On: 9/10/03 at 05:47 PM
Benzy, you have to KNOW someone to have something for OR "against" them. I've never even met the lady outside of a stage door. WHY, OH WHY, when someone isn't *afraid* to call out a performance, as less than brilliant, and life changing, is it ALWAYS because, the poster MUST "have something against the actor(Kerry) personally"? Hmm? Could it be that she's just NOT very good? I'm THRILLED that she's NOT a friend or collegue. I wouldn't know WHAT to say to her, if she asked me my honest opinion. I'm NO actor, so I would fail miserably at being upbeat about a deadbeat performance. Get it through your head, "it's not you i'm angry at Helga, it's the DIRT"!
I see where Al's coming from here. However, Al, the way you state your opinions is like you think you're dictator here. For example: "Kerry should do everyone a favor and quit (yes, I'm serious)." WOW, I sure hope I'm not a part of this "everyone." Just don't say everything as if your opinion is the only one that matters. Just reword your posts Al, and the world will be a better place. I think the way you say some things may come across differently than you intend them to. That's all I have to say about that.

Let me take a second and say that, one of the main reasons I was so excited about LSOH being brought back and to Broadway is that I "KNEW" it would be a chance for a great, big, broadway actress to sink her teeth into the role and really go for it....well,I was wrong..Alice Ripley, interesting, saw her perform the role, very much like Ellen Greene(saw her too!),wonderfully sung/too much in EG shadow...saw an upstart regional production in Atlantic City(LOVED IT!)...Elizabeth Maurer played the role, amazing actress, a solid singer, enjoyed her take...understood they'd never hire an "unknown" for the Broadway mounting(sadly)..so went back to hoping a major star would tackle it...(Andrea McArdle/Mira Sorvino(don't laugh)..or Rachel York..instead I got Kerry Butler, a second string Audrey from a third string performer...thanks Mr.Telsey. Oh, and I don't dislike her as a person at all.
"MELANIE IS GOD AWFUL! Does she act that way in the show, or was she just having an off day?"
She didn't even sing!! I haven't seen her as Roxie and I wanted to hear her sing!! Brent Barrett- I thought he was really good!!!

Can you please define "third string performer" and what that means exactly?
