Guess that was more interviews than rehearsal, but I couldn't get "community theater" out of my head.
The kids look great. I hope they're on different levels.
And Gershon, darling, you might want to start learning the lyrics.
I enjoyed it... ESPECIALLY the title song. SO excited!

I'm convinced that everyone on BWW under 21 who hates this show does because they didn't get called back from teh open call.

Really? I think the score is pretty good and it's a solid show, but it's one of those shows that might as well be spot on amazing or "oy!"
It's one of the best book musical of the golden age with one of the best scores. For musical comedy it doesn't get any better than this.
But they didn't call me back so I'm with you! Down with Birdie!

Gina Gershon is a trainwreck, but boy are Bill Irwin and Dee Hoty delightful.
And I'm confused Rentboy because you liked the show 2 years ago.

Not a burn at all. Tastes change, don't they? I don't think it's awful or the worst musicl ever, just not a huge fan of the show anymore. And I don't really care for any of the cast in this revival except my girl Jayne! She's the only reason I'm going!
Yeah tastes change when you get typed out of an audition.
boy are Bill Irwin and Dee Hoty delightful.
Dee Hoty in particular should have a higher profile. Seen her in many shows and she's always great, but the roles she has been given (mostly moms or wives) don't really give her a chance too shine. Wish I had seen her as Donna in MAMMA MIA.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
I rarely stage door but I just had to stage door when I saw her as Reno in Anything Goes in Seattle. Man she is hilarious and very blunt in a classy old dame kinda way.
I've seen her as Reno and Mame and she was delightful as both.

Aside from Gershon and Stamos I'm not as horrified of this as I thought.
I'm excited for this.
Maybe it'll exceed everyone's expectations?
I'm not worried about Stamos really. He sounds fairly competent in the interview. Gershon and her comments about "The Shriner's Ballet' being too "gang rapey" worry me.
"Not a burn at all. Tastes change, don't they?"
Puberty?
Although there's really very little to make an accurate prediction for the quality of the production, I'm excited.
I get liking Les Miz and Phantom as a kid and realizing there's better stuff out there but Birdie? That's kind of like saying "I used to like Oklahoma! but I've grown out of it".
