Unless there is a new song or two, or the screenplay differs from the stage or Midler version there is no reason for this project whatsoever.

In all likelihood, if Streisand wasn't attached to this, the film wouldn't be getting made so all the negativity is bothersome considering any new musical film that gets made will hopefully lead to more.

And any new musical can also lead to less. The Mame movie killed movie musicals in the 1970s. Nobody wanted to hear Lucy croak out a song and gimp around.

Gypsy is one of the finest musicals in the American Musical Theater art form. It deserves good treatment. Streisand is too old to play the part and it's only a vanity project for her. I would be all for this if it were someone like Catherine Zeta-Jones who might be believable in the role. But it's wrong for Streisand to take the role. She's just not suited for it.

I think Tom Hanks, as discussed in early news reports, would be a great Herbie.

Kevin Kline is too refined for Herbie. Plus he's too good looking. In all their scenes, who wants to look at ugly duckling Barbra when they can look at Kline? My guess is that they will go with someone less handsome.

oh please. barbra will be airbrushed to no end. she will look wonderful and her herbie's good looks willl definitely be downplayed.

I'm thinking that Garber may be a possibility. He's not a big enough star to outshine Streisand.

I don't think Tom Hanks can be considered because Barbra is not going to stand for advertisements like: "Starring two time Oscar winner Tom Hanks".

I'm confused...Kline is too 'refined', but Garber is a possibility???
