I also know an actress who describes the stagedoor as the highlight of her day. That experience is valid, just as BWW's is. I'm not here to demonize the stagedoor. But we, as fans, need to
1. vocally push for shows to encourage people to stagedoor or not stagedoor, as they prefer
2. be kind and generous with actors when they do stagedoor, and police the behaviour of anyone with bad manners or ill intentions. If that girl's father had grabbed her before she could assault BWW, or someone had told that guy "Hey BWW doesn't sign, you should leave it alone", then this might not have happened. In general, make the stagedoor a place that won't tolerate disrespect. We set the tone.
3. defend any actor that chooses not to stagedoor, including actors who don't want to ever, and actors who may do it or not do it depending on how they feel, or actors who just want to wave and say thanks on their way out. It's an extra gift, not required, and should be treated as such.
Basically, make it safer for actors to come out if they want to, and safer for them to refuse if they prefer to go straight home.
