Posted: 10/19/03 at 7:44pmJust reminding you guys that "Beautiful Girl" starring Marissa Jaret Winokur will air in less than a half hour on the east coast on ABC Family. It won't be the best movie, but should be fun!
#2re: re: Beautiful Girl Reminder
Posted: 10/19/03 at 8:19pmI can't stand this. It's only 20 minutes through and I have heard "you don't have to be thing to be beautifull" 2,000 times....ok we get the point.
#3re: re: re: Beautiful Girl Reminder
Posted: 10/19/03 at 8:37pmThat's 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back! That was the absolute WORST thing I've had the misfortune of seeing in recent memory. If Marissa's gawd awful performance in this dreadful movie doesn't put the whole "should Marissa have won the Tony over Bernadette", discussion to bed, than I don't know what will. How many times is she going to rehash this concept. I don't think I've chimed in much during any Winokur discussions but this has to be said. She's hard to look at, even harder to listen to(her singing is TERRIBLE) and the "sexier" she tries to be, the more repulsive she looks. She's also apparantly lost what little acting ability she had. Now THIS, is what you call a "bad career move".

Barry called me. "Aren't you watching Marissa?"
"No, I'm too tired. I've had a hellish day and I'm pooped. I'm going to sleep."
"You have NO idea how awful she is. (and Barry adored her in HAIRSPRAY, btw) The camera is RIGHT on top of her and she's all big hair, big boobs and a ooky marshmallow syrupy smile. You can't watch her. She's unbearable. She's TOO over-the-top... you want to scream. I turned it off after 15 minutes."
Looks like he's not alone! G'nite, keeds!

Posted: 10/19/03 at 8:56pmAwful, Awful, Awful. She was awful in Hairspray and she is awful in this. Did you see her song? Talk about flat and just plain annoying (sound like Hairspray?.) I've been saying since previews how untalented this girl is, but no one seems to want to listen. Anyway, changing the channel now. I won't go on anymore, you get the drift. Posted: 10/19/03 at 9:46pmAlright...cute movie, but bad choice of actors. Fran Drescher tends to get on my nerves as well.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 9:51pmAl Dente for once I totally agree with you:P I turned it off before the end. Can we say repulsive? Very. It seems like the only roles she can play are the "Im proud to be heavy" ones. Gosh I would love to give her a makeover. Updated On: 10/19/03 at 09:51 PM

Posted: 10/19/03 at 9:58pmI couldn't do it to myself. I got SO sick of the Beautiful Girl posters around Times Square, I found them totally grating and ended up resenting them and Marissa. Somebody I have previously loved.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 10:18pmDoes Fran D bother others in the commercial she does for Old Navy? Although she doesn't open her mouth, there's something about that artificial smile she wears throughout the commercial that drives me up a wall.

OK so the theme of the movie is cute but I hate ABC Family movies they are so poorly written I want to scream watching them. This is the first one I have sat the whole way through and it was only because I like Marissa and Fan is funny well normally. But I did really like the story behind the bad writing I mean it was why to predictable and all but Marissa good I like the girl from Hills Burrow haha. Oh well I do tend to agree with everyone it was pretty offal and I couldn't sit through it again but I have seen worse.
I think it's awesome that heavy women are starting to appear more in the main stream of entertainment now we need better writers and for these women to get roles that have nothing to do with there weight just get normal that anyone can play. I got in a huge argument with my friends over this the other day. She thinks excepting heavier people in entertainment makes it ok for little kids to get fat and how everyone is worried with the obesity of American. But people are people no matter what they look like and it's about time they started putting people who aren't size four and under on TV. Maybe if they did that more when I was younger I wouldn't have had the issues I did when it came to my weight. But that's a completely different topic sorry.
and yes Fran is very creepy in the Old Navy adds

Posted: 10/19/03 at 11:41pmOh my goodness I have been looking forward to this for SO LONG and I can't wait to see it (I dont get ABC Family in my dorm, kso my mom is taping it for me at home) but now im just scared) I LOVE Marissa, I think she is SO BEAUTIFUL and I do like her singing, and I always loved Franny, so I figured how could I NOT like this movie?! I dunno, i'll have to watch my tape and see if it's really as bad as all that....

Posted: 10/20/03 at 1:26amShe sounded horrible. To anyone who said her Tracy Turnblad voice was a character voice, now we know that they were wrong. She sounds awful all the time; out of pitch, tongue hanging out her mouth, nasal singing. I'll say it again...awful, awful, awful!

Ugh, Ugh, Ugh...I never saw Marissa in Hairspray...the only time I ever heard her was at the Tony's performance, which I know wasn't the best quality for various reasons, but I wasn't impressed then and I'm sure not impressed now. The Hairspray OCR is certainly something I won't be investing in...ever. Why is it that some people don't understand that there are key differences between stage acting and film acting? Especially in expressions...on stage everything has to be dramatic and overexagerrated so that the audience can see it. But its not necessary on film and it seems like Marissa never got that memo.
Getting to see Mark Consuelos was a nice treat, however. :)

ugh! I am very surprised at the quality of the performances in this film...........
An acting coach was in need on this film or a much stronger director or some serious recasting...
How very embarassing the performances were.

Posted: 10/20/03 at 11:37amThe movies was just OK. Poor OK. It was a fun family film with a good message, but the quality was awful! Does Fran have to have that laugh in everything she does???

i guess so broadwaytheatre11, i was surprised she did it too. but then, maybe it was one of those insider fun things, like the line in the movie to Marissa's charachter:
"hairspray'll make you a star."

Posted: 10/20/03 at 3:24pmThis was one of the worst movies I have ever seen! First of all, I know that for films the actors have to lip-sink to their own voice, but Marissa couldn't even do that. It was so obvious she wasn't singing live. I did like the characters in the movie, but Fran Drescher is really not believable as the mother. I know she's in her late 40's, but she sure doesn't look it. When I saw Fran in the adds, I thought she was going to be playing some Pageant Judge or something; not the mother of 2 girls in their mid-late 20's. I was hoping for some funny "Miss Congeniality" type of movie....but I couldn't even stay awake to finish watching it.

By the way
I noticed that MJW was an associate producer on the show. How did she get that credit? Did she put money into the show and if she did where did she get it from? Hairspray couldn't have paid her that much.
