This is sad, but when I saw it in December it was obvious it was near the end. I'm excited for Little Mermaid though-it should be interesting.
Wow. I thought for sure that MERMAID would go for a bigger house.
Can NOT wait to see will FB will do with this news!
Anyone else feel this is sort of the end of an era (since BatB was their first Broadway show), even though Disney is still clearly going strong on Broadway?
Everything old is new again.
I thought it would be this way...they're closing they're taking out the old & bringing in the new.
THE LITTLE MERMAID better not suck.
But thank GOD that show is finally closing.

does anyone have the Palace after Legally Blonde?
LEGALLY BLONDE is an open-ended run...
But...maybe GREASE if it flops.
I know people have said the production has gone down hill in the last few years, but it is sad to see it go. I saw it in 2002 and loved it. But I would rather it go out now, with some pride...than drag on forever.
I've still never seen it. Not on Broadway, not on tour -- not even the movie. Is it worth a heavily discounted ticket just to say I've done it?
LEGALLY BLONDE is open-ended, and it will run for most likely a year, if not more: I'm having high hopes for LB
GREASE, however, I think is going to be a major flop.
Do you think they'll try to pull in any stars or past cast members to close it out?

Big mistake. Kill the ape-man, not the beast.
I have to disagree with that! Let "Tarzan" as it is...haha, it needs to stay: I'm finally seeing it this summer!
this is kind of sad... i need to go back and see it... it's been YEARS

Wow...13 years on Broadway (At least ACL still beats it!), that's a very large portion of my life (I'm 20), it's a little like losing a dog...to me at least. However, it is smart, two Princess based musicals probably would not have held as well. Now we just gotta get rid of Tarzan...
I seriously thought that show would eventually beat out Phantom
Oh well, best of luck to the cast and crew in their final months
Here's the quote about why they're closing 'Beauty' in stead of 'Tarzan':
Like “Beauty,” “Tarzan” was savaged by critics, but while “Beauty” went on to play to almost packed houses for years, attendance figures for “Tarzan” have waned, the advance has shrunk and, except for holiday weeks, the grosses have hardly been soaring. So why not call it quits on “Tarzan” and let “Beauty” keep, well, floating along?
Mr. Schumacher, who said “Tarzan” is covering its costs, said the Richard Rodgers Theater, where “Tarzan” is playing, is too small for “Mermaid” and too small for “Beauty.” He added that there are two productions of “Tarzan” being planned for Europe. Keeping “Tarzan” going on Broadway is good for the non-Broadway “Tarzan” franchise.
Kind of a ridiculous excuse in my opinion, but c'est la vie, I suppose.

A catchier thread title would be "Beauty to Close July 29, Mermaid opens Dec. 6"

This is just a dream, right? Or someone's just been vandalizing the Wikipedia entry for this musical again, right?
I saw this on the front page and said "wow" out loud. It had a good run but I wish Tarzan would have closed instead. Beauty and the Beast was a lot of kids first exposure to theater.
I'm glad it's going out with dignity.
Disney has a good track recod any producer would be proud of
Lion King - Still Running
B/B - Closing after 13 years
Aida - 3 plus years
Tarzan ?
