I'm torn
I'm sad to see Beauty and the Beast go and I hope I have at least one more chance to see it. It's my favorite Disney movie and while not one of my favorite musicals, it is still close to my heart. But...
I'm happy that they're bringing in Little Mermaid because my little sister absolutely loves the movie. She's been dying to see this come to life for a long time now. As long as it isn't anything like "The Voyage of the Little Mermaid" in MGM, I'll be happy.
That said, I wonder who will close BatB...

It may not be the perfect show, but this is still really sad. An era of Broadway is ending.

Why would they close a $1 million + per week show over a $500,000 - or + per week show?

I'm sooooo glad this show is closing. I had a fear that it would eventually pass A Chorus Line. Seeing that it's closing makes me so happy.
And as far as Tarzan is concerned, I'll give it another year at best. With The Lion King & Mary Poppins still going strong and a new Disney show The Little Mermaid, Tarzan will be at the bottom. It's barely breaking even now.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I never really got into BATB but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to actually replace it with The Little Mermaid.
I'm not a gay stereotype. I'm a coincidence.

Uh...it's not as if this show is never going to be performed ever again.... Ever heard of regional theater?

Wow, when I saw the home page I could'nt believe it. I'll always have a soft spot for B&TB since it was my first Broadway show, but I think it's time it did close. There's no shame in closing after a 13 year run, and most producers would be thrilled to have their show run half that long. It will continue to live on in regional theatres and in high schools.
On the other hand, I'm excited for The Little Mermaid.

I can see Ashley Tisdale playing Ariel. She has Disney ties, a nice voice, and she's got that cute "likeability" thing goin' for her.

Woah. I really did not see that coming (and I am not being sarcastic).

I'm sad to see the show go, but frankly it's about time. I went a couple weeks ago and thought that while it's not a bad show, it has seen better days. The audience for this show has become a zoo also (search for my BATB post for a more detailed explanation).
Can't wait to see Little Mermaid tho, I think it's going to be great!

This is actually about eight months later than originally thought. Disney had planned on closing BATB this past fall (more or less with the arrival of MARY POPPINS)but business has been good the last year, so who can argue with that. I think by the time MERMAID opens, TARZEN will be long gone - so back to the magic three on Broadway for the big mouse.

Yeah MB, I would have thought that Tarzan would be the first to go since it doesn't seem to be doing good business. Then I saw the statement released by Disney saying that the Richard Rodgers is too small for both B&TB and The Little Mermaid. I'm not completly sure I buy it, but oh well.........

This is crazy. As many people will say, Tarzan should have left, not Beauty. Well, we will see what happens.

Is the guy who's been phoning in his performances as the Beast still with the show? Just curious.
I had a feeling it would close soon, with the rights available to so many regional/community theaters.
