Steve Blanchard...and yes, he is still with the show.

What exactly is run down about the show in recent years? just the performances? or effects and such?

Tarzan isn't doing that bad it is giving pretty strong grosses for the 2 hard weeks of Broadway so far.
Also the Richard Rodgers is going to have toruble getting any show into that theatre so Tazran will be there for a while.

No, it's just that the Rodgers is a small theater. A show that needs little backstage room can fit.
It was Disney's mistake putting Tarzan there. Closing Beauty is the only feisable thing to do.

To guarantee a hit, they're renaming some of the Mermaid songs to:
Defying Aquaty
And I am (not) Telling You
The Bitch of the Ocean
Shells 10, Fins 3
You Can't Stop My Feet

I would have preferred to see Tarzan go, but thank god this is closing. I would hate to see five Disney shows running at the same time.

Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is Broadway’s longest running American musical and the 6th longest running show of all time.
I thought ACL was still the longest running american show?

ACL still has the all-time record, but I think they mean the CURRENT longest running American show.

Craig, that was hilarious.
Sad to see my first Broadway show go, but something new needs to come.

I would have preferred to see Tarzan go, but thank god this is closing. I would hate to see six Disney shows running at the same time.

I am kind of surprised that TLM casting has yet to be announced and yet they have announced EVERYTHING else(don't yell at me...i know there are 30000000 threads on it)
I'm definitely mourning Beauty and the Beast
although I am excited for TLM

I've seen LION KING in Los Angeles and while it looks good, the book is really terrible. But it's making money so I understand why it's staying open over BatB.

What was run down about it? I mean even four years ago, mind you four years ago when i last saw it, the sets squeaked unbelivabley and shook as they entered stage, the effects were poor and lacking, i was not sitting in a bad sight line seat, and saw backstage no fewer than three times. Dont get me wrong its sad to see actors out of work, but still, once "Beauty was decreased", it was not the same show.

Wow...this was my very first show. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was shocked to see this.

when i read that BatB would be closing this summer, i literally gasped out loud. it makes me so sad. i saw it for the first time last january. my friend really wants to see it and we didn't get a chance when we were just in NYC last week. So sad. i can see what they mean with the show getting a little tired but it is sad to see a classic like this go. rest in peace B&B

Took my niece to it for her first show when she was six.Liked it better than I thought I would.
My horrible ex girlfriend met us (niece and her parents) afterwards for dinner.
Two years later my niece and I were coming home from the Yankee game, We passed the ex girlfriends stop and I said "Thats Janet's stop." "Why didn't you marry her?" she asked me. "Because Uncle Richie was a very lucky man." The guy across from me started cracking up.

I'm shocked. I can't believe it. This was my first Broadway show and it's going to be really hard seeing it go...=(

That seems like a rather ignorant statement to make. Ignorant in the basic definition - NOT as a slam or personal attack. But since there isn't a set cast, a day of rehearsal complete, etc - there's no way to say that it looks like anything...
For me, the suprising thing is not so much that BatB closing (which I am actually a bit sad for nostalgic reasons) but that they are closing to to make way for Little Mermaid. NOT because Little Mermaid shouldn't be on Broadway or anything like that. But because given the choice between BatB and Tarzan - I'd personally choose to close Tarzan.
BatB is a much more accessible show and has been a Broadway staple (regardless of what some might thing) for 13 years. I don't see that kind of life in Tarzan. I *could* see at least a few more years of BatB though.
That being said, and although it's been joked about. I *could* easily see in 5-10 or 15 years Disney bringing BatB back to Broadway for a limited run. It would fall in line with their "from the vault" marketing technique with DVDs. And if a theater wasn't available, they could do a limited run at Radio City or elsewhere and bring it back with a large cast, etc.

Don't be surprised if that isn't part of the "plan" Craig.
