If you haven't seen ... confirmation that Beetlejuice won't reopen at the Winter Garden.

I second that emotion General Peron.

Just placing this into the universe. If.... IF it was going to make a miracle post-mortem transfer at this point..... what are the chances they change the Brigadoon line to Music Man?

Again, the show is NOT transferring to another theatre.
IT’S CLOSED. IT’S DONE. IT’S OVER.
NO MORE!! GET OVER IT.

I just want to clarify something.
I get a little tense when people talk about how the show was "evicted because of The Music Man". Before tThe Tony Awards, ticket sales were NOT good. They had most likely planned on announcing a closing not long after. It became tricky and bad timing when The Music Man announcement came, because it seemed like right at the same time, ticket sales for Beetlejuice surged. But no one expected that would happen. I personally think it was an issue of extremely bad timing. A show gathering steam and selling more tickets than ever right when a producer or director decided they wanted the same theater (spare me the "they could have chosen a different theater!"
, I'm pretty sure the producers of The Music Man wanted the Winter Garden, like I think the director also had his heart set on that theater, So it really, truly bugs me when people don't understand that there is so much that went into this. It's unfortunate, but it's absolutely no reason to disrespect another show. There ARE people who want to see The Music Man. Every show means something to someone. Beetlejuice ended up being a show that brought in many audiences at an extremely...weird? awkward? time. Didn't they also have a stop clause that they were told about right before the Tonys or something? People of all ages appreciated the show. People of all ages will appreciate The Music Man. We have got to move on. OF COURSE you can be sad. But putting down The Music Man is not the solution. Beetlejuice is not gone forever.

Posted: 4/10/20 at 11:17amYes, it was bad timing that the show picked up business after the decision to replace it had been made. But that’s part of this business. And honestly the fact they incorporated resentment for “Music Man” into the show (and I know the kids loved it) to me, was just in the poorest of taste and spoke badly about the show.

I am 100% with you on that. I think "stans" of the show found it funny and great and whatever, but it really was not the right thing to do. I totally agree with you.

Interesting video about Presley Ryan's last day before the show closed, which seems to stoke the flame of possibly coming back. She says the show had it's "...the last performance of Beetlejuice for now" and mentioning the cast has weekly Zoom calls (very similar to shows that are planning to open when the virus subsides). To me, this does not automatically mean BJ on Broadway will open up again, but it does not seem impossible. Best case scenario, BJ finds a new house and continue to run, but worst case this could mean Ryan might be going on tour/transferring to the West End (which is still exciting to see). I doubt any new information will be confirmed until the dust settles on Broadway around Covid-19, but it has to happen at some point so we will see.

But this thread is about the musical's future, not just speculation on if it's opening on Broadway again. We are allowed to talk about that, that is clearly in the title. I agree this should not be a million different threads saying the same thing, but there is no harm in having this thread open.

Posted: 4/19/20 at 8:19pmWhy are people so adamant on this show re-opening? Yes, it is terrible that it’s cast and crew are out of work. I do not like that part. But sometimes it’s best to let shows be. It’ll have a good life in community and regional theatres, I’m sure.

Posted: 4/19/20 at 9:02pmHere’s the thing. When Broadway reopens, it’ll need big, huge, crowd-pleasing shows with built-in fan bases to bring people back. Some money behind it won’t help. Beetlejuice could very well be one of those shows that could bring people back to Broadway. The fans will come. It’s a recognizable title. WB Theatricals is behind it. The momentum when they closed was simply undeniable. And they’ll have a wider selection of available theaters to choose from than they did a month or two ago. That’s my two cents. Even if the show doesn’t return to Broadway, we haven’t seen the last of this musical adaptation.

Logically speaking it does have a future, but NOT on Broadway. A possible tour, regional engagements, and then licensing. A very respectable and highly normal afterlife.
Unless you have some reason to believe that the show will be not only cancelled but stifled? Pulled from MTI and never made available... but that would be a rarity among rarities.
