Oh how I wish Bernadette played Desirée in the revival of Night Music when it officially opened; I wish she was on the cast recording; she would for sure have won that Tony!!

I'd like to see her in Hello Dolly and win a Tony for that....

I'd love to see her as Dolly too. God, I would have seen her in anything after Night Music. The woman is incredible.

She wouldn't have won. CZJ was much better and much sexier as Desiree.
Bernadette would be good as Dolly Levi though.

Of course she would have won. Montego couldn't beat CZJ. She surely wouldn't have been able to beat Peters.

I thought Bernadette did a great job with the role but I thought Catherine was overall way better.

Peters' role made this a revival actually worth re-seeing, which I never thought would happen. She's probably giving the best musical performance of the last several seasons, and certainly the one that will be the most-remembered. I've seen it twice with her now, and she is phenomenal.

I think if this revival is worth re-visiting is because of the ensemble and the show itself. Actually I think Elaine Stritch is very good in the show(now that she knows her lines)

Given the Peters received overwhelmingly positive reviews, she would have been a heavy favorite for the Tony. To me, the bigger question is: if Stritch had been in the opening night cast, with proper rehearsal time, would she have won the best supporting Tony over Finneran?

^ I think she definitely would have given Katie a run for her money, Stritch was hilarious and her Wooden Ring speech at the end was so emotional and power-packing.

I loved this revival when it opened, although I hated what was shown on the Tony Award telecast. Seeing it again was worth it due to the sublime performance by Bernadette Peters. After nearly four decades of enjoying Send in the Clowns, to have it done by Bernadette gave a whole new meaning that left me sobbing. It was wonderful to have a more joyous production as well, freer with the humor that have me laugh out loud several times. That did not happen to me with CZJ.

This past Saturday matinee, Elaine went up 3 times on her lines in Act 1. She regained her craft by act 2 and I'm willing to forgive her. Hindsight is great, but how I wish Bernadette opened with Angela.
