Posted: 8/20/05 at 10:51pmWhich one do you prefer? I personally enjoy both but would rather see Bernadette. What an actress/singer. So much emotion.

It depends on the material.
For instance, something like the Witch in Into the Woods or Annie Oakley I'd definatley rather see Bernadette.
Something like Sweeney Todd or Evita, I'd rather see Patti.
If it's something like Wicked or Rent, I'd be much better off seeing neither of them.

Bernadette, all the way. But I do love La Lupone too. I think Peters is a much more honest performer. Though, I think Lupone would have made a better Annie Oakley (she did it in concert a few seasons before the revival).

Bernadette. Patti was exciting years ago, but I just don't find her all that appealing anymore. Bernadette, on the other hand, has only grown as a performer.

Yeah, I never really liked Patti LuPone. There's something about her voice that really turns me off to her. I refuse to buy her "Anything Goes" album. I'm going with the recent London revival recording, even if it is more expensive.
I like Bernadette much better.

When it comes to listening to a cast recording, I would take Bernadette over Patti in an instant. When it comes to watching a performance, I've enjoyed both equally.

Posted: 8/21/05 at 3:58amIf I'm in the mood for powerhouse vocals, I turn to Patti. If I'm in the mood for emotion and vulnerability, I turn to Bernadette. But if I had to choose, I'd probably go with Bernadette.

Posted: 8/21/05 at 12:42pmNo decision. It would totally depend on the material. I do think that Patti was passed over for 2 roles that Bernadette got (AGYG, Gypsy). And...as affecting Bernadette was as the Witch, I think Patti's would've been amazing. They both have their own unique styles and that's what makes them stars. Why compare when you can have both!

Posted: 8/21/05 at 5:13pmDepends on the role. Patti's voice seems to be in better shape than Bernadette's these days. Patti was stunning in Passion, but Bernadette was also fabulous in Gypsy. I'd like to see Patti stop doing concerts and do some more full productions. It's one thing to perform in concert, but it's entirely another to do a full show. With Lovett, I'd rather see Bernie just b/c I've seen LuPone do it before. They're very different performers, and I think Bernadette has gotten the better rap just because the things she has done recently are more commercial and well-known. Patti is just doing all these concerts. Hopefully the Sweeney revival will thrust her back into the spotlight.
