I know there's the thread for who we all think is winning everything, but I think this race is incredibly tight and I can see it going to any of the 4 nominees. If I were voting, I would vote for Henry Haddon-Paton, but I'm not sure who will actually win. Who does everyone think is the favorite? Is there even a favorite?!?

Haddon-Paton or Shaoulb.

Can't speak to my prediction, but my vote would easily go to Harry Hadden-Paton. Talk about an exquisite performance. His Higgins genuinely made me forget about Rex Harrison (which is no easy feat). His entire performance is glorious, but his descent into fury and rage in Act II is especially award-worthy. I'm really rooting for him.

I'd really LIKE to see Shalhoub take it. Playing a quiet, reserved character with the amount of nuance and layers he does is quite the feat. I've seen the show twice (loved it both times) and am so grateful to gave seen Shaloub second...as anything else woukd have seemed a disappointment.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I’d like to agree with the people above that Mr. Henry Higgins deserves it. I’ve always hated that character, but he made me feel for him. It was a nuanced performance.

I would vote for Hadden-Paton. Slater is a close second though!

I'm rooting for Ethan Slater. Of the four nominees, he's the only one who is truly the star of his show... and while all three other men are very talented and are giving exceptional performances, I think Slater is the most irreplaceable. He's really a quadruple threat... I feel like he must do 100 pull-ups a day to be able to physically handle that role.

If not him, then I'm hoping for Haddon-Paton who I thought was pretty perfect in MFL. Tony Shalhoub was lovely but a little too understated for me (Lenk is the clear star of that show, imho), and while I have always enjoyed Joshua Henry's work in the past and will happily see him in future roles, I was not feeling him in Carousel.

These are my feelings exactly! Slater is absolutely astonishing, and Haddon-Paton made an impressive debut as well. If you had told me a year ago that I would hope that Josh Henry DIDN'T win a Tony, it would have sounded absurd, but while he sang the hell out of his role, I didn't feel any connection with the role or the relationships being presented onstage.

Is there any way for a mod to combine the two Best Actor in a Musical threads? Both this thread and the other one have some excellent posts and I'd like to see the discussion continue in one thread.
